9/23/08:
Hello, this may be a little longer of a post, but I need to get the wisdom of these board members, this is all new, and I am not sure if I have Herpes or not. This will effect my relationship, maybe even divorce if it comes out that I do, so that is why I am so serious and scared...
The sex that I had with unknown partners back in 2002 - 03. and oral with a condom on in 2008. I was wearing a condom so as not to get Hiv. My question is this, I am scared if I have herpes. On my penis(located on the "ridge" part), I have a few pimple looking like bumps, almost look similar to a white head on face, before the puss comes out. I did have an outbreak of canker like sores in my mouth at the beginning of the year, and went to the Doctor because was so painful, and he gave me valtrex. He did ask me if I had ever performed oral sex, but I did not. I really haven't had any pain down there, a few times an occasional burning, but not noticeable and not for a long period of time. Oh, when I mentioned the "bumps" on the ridge of my penis, the bumps were not all over the ridge, just located in an area on the ridge, again, pimple whitehead looking bumps.
Over the weekend(9-19-2008) I decided to visit an Urgent Care clinic. I have and still have the "bumps". Currently, on my penis ridge, I have like 3 red, blister looking bumps. These things seem to have been hanging around for a good while. I keep looking hoping they will go away, but they will not. So anyway, I wonder how good the Urgent Care Doctor is? He said that I will need to go to my regular provider if I want to have blood tests. However, he said that he does not what herpes looks like, and after putting his light on my penis to see what the bumps look like, he said, that is not herpes. I did explain to him that last week a couple of the bumps came to a little whitehead, but he still said that what I have does not look like herpes, so he said go home and rest easy. I had not a little uncomfortable sensation on my penis and scrotum, until that nite(Friday).
In your opinion, how accurate do you think that Doctor can be by just looking at and me giving an explanation of what occurs on the bumps? I did for a couple of days, feel a bit uncomfortable down on my penis area, somewhat of a "distant" burning(maybe that is to strong of a word), but seemed like a very short interval. Do you think I should move on because of what that Doctor said after looking at my area and bumps? It is frustrating that the bumps will not go and clear up, yet they seem to have gotten red and it is just odd. The thing that makes me nervous, and part of the reason I went to the Urgent Care Friday nite, is because I wanted to know the Doctors opinion, and also because it was feeling a bit uncomfortable in the penis area.
Today(9-22-08) I am having occassional discomfort, slight burning, but when I sit down and relax and not walk around, it feels alot better, as to where nothing hurts right now. And yesterday was a real good day, no pain all day. Amidst this, I guess I am so far going with what the Doctor said Friday nite, by just looking with his light at the uncomfortable area, him saying that this is not herpes looking.
9-23-08
I just recently checked my "bumps", and they are showing a little tiny whitehead looking, and I ran my finger over them, and felt like a tiny crust. Maybe I am being to paranoid, but can't figure out why they are there?? And I am trying to take comfort in what the Doctor told me on Friday by looking at the area on the penis, but why the heck are they bumps there. and now I am really spooked out because I see a little whitehead(tiny) today and some burning! I hate this. The reason it is such a HUGE deal to me(if it were just affecting me, that would be one thing)is because if my wife ever gets them(if I have herpes), our relationship would most likely be over.
I hope this is not annoying, it is just SO hard and I need to get some answers, thanks

I think no, you don't have genital herpes, but the canker sores you have may be herpes type 1. You can get tested for this and find out for sure. The ones on your penis don't sound like type 2 herpes.

Are you serious, that is awesome. I guess with what I have experienced and the similar symptoms to HSV2, I am just waiting to hear the dreaded news.
I keep getting more discouraged because right now, I have a bit of discomfort / burning on my penis where the couple of "bumps/pimple look like whiteheads"are located. Is this weird or ? should I still not be concerned about it being HSV2 or 1? I apologize if I am being annoying, it is just tough having these similar symptoms to HSV.
Have you been on the Healthboard long? Thanks for such a quick response. Please let me know what your wisdom on my situation today.
In your opinion, what do you think it resembles, and what makes you think it is not herpes, in your wisdom.
I am excited of you words of advice

In all these doctor visits have you ever had the blood test that tests for herpes?
If not, get one. It will tell you what you have but not where you have it.
Ask for 'type specific HerpeSelect IgG blood test'.
None of us are doctors here and no one can really diagnose you over the internet.

I have some painful news. Last nite was the first time ever that I had real bad pain and burning on the penis and the scrotum and leg areas! I feel better this morning, but it was SO painful and burning last nite, that I felt like putting an ice cube down there just to get some relief. I went to bed with it painful, but this morning at work here, it feels better. One thing I do wonder is the fact that I do not wear underwear, if that would cause irritations in the genital area? I looked at the penis area, on the ridge part, and there were a couple of blister, red bumps. I am SO afraid, could this be anything besides herpes, or am I just being to paranoid??

Go back to urgent care or your family doc. Get a blood test for Herpes and also give them a urine sample to test for infection.

So in your opinion, from what you have read about my story and symptoms and pain last nite, you feel that it may not be genital herpes? Today, I went to the bathroom again and looked down and saw a few red bumps, blister looking, with a tiny whitehead on a couple of them.
I mean I pray that it is not genital herpes, but I guess in my mind I am preparing for the worse, which you are right, doesn't help my immune system and stress level. I know the members on this board are wise and experienced, so that is why I covet your comments and wisdom.
Please respond more on what I just have written. I am going to the Doctors tonite, and I am going to have the Doc look at it, and suggest testing, but in my mind, I am trying to prepare for the fact that tonite I am going to be told that I have genital herpes HSV2, and that my world will change forever, and that I might want to leave this world. I am married with 2 children, and a baby due in November. In short, I was involved with situations a few years ago, which could be risk for std(s). I have never had any symptoms until a few months ago, I noticed bluish-purple bumps under my skin, on the ridge of the penis. They have stayed there, but not til recently did the bumps get reddish, and just last nite and today, are the first days that I have had pain. But I think that it is weird that I had bubble looking bumps under my skin, never hurt before for a good while.
Anyway, IF I did have HSV2, it may mean the end of our relationship. I have caused her SO much heartache, that I wouldn't blame her.
I guess the only way that this would not affect our relationship now, is if I did have herpes, is not to tell her. I did read where sometimes people can have herpes a lifetime, and never have symptoms, that would be what I would pray for, this would save my relationship. I am such an idiot for doing all of that risky actions in the past, if I could change it, I would go back.
Anyway, SUPER good news for me tonite at the Doctors would be for the Doc to say that I do not have HSV2!!! I would be SO relieved and would celebrate!!
I guess I would still wonder why the red bumps, the little whiteheads on the bumps, and the burning pain, that I have not experienced in my 37 years, until last nite and today so far. Seems like if I sit still, my genital area does not burn as much. What do you think, along with any other replies, I need them at this time.
Should I just reside that I do have HSV2, and know that my world will change tonite?

you should get a STD panel run and the blood test for herpes (usually not included in standard std panels)

No one can diagnose you over the internet. Herpes looks different in everyone. I just get an angry red patch...no blisters. A lot of things look like herpes that aren't.
It is possible you have had herpes for years and recent stress brought on an outbreak and maybe your wife will buy that. With 2 kids and one on the way, she will probably look to believe your lies. If you do find you you have it, you must tell her or forever lose her trust. What if you gave it to your wife and she has no symptoms? The doctor would have to know to make sure nothing happens to the new baby...now wouldn't you feel guilty if the baby was born with a problem that could have been easily prevented? So if in fact you do test positive, you better tell your wife ASAP!
I bet it is the stress that is bothering you. Let us know what you find out tonight.

It could be HPV but you should probably get all the standard STD tests. A lot of these viruses lie dormant in the body for years so this should not necessarily mean the end of your marriage. Now is the time to find out because if you passed something onto your wife and she is expecting, she needs to be tested as well prior to the delivery.

9-25-08 UPDATE: I did go to my regular family Doctor last evening. I was afraid to have her look at my penis and the bumps area, for fear that she would have to break the news to me, that I have Herpes. When she look and examined under the light, she said that does not appear as herpes to her. I asked her if she has seen herpes as far as experienced. She said that she knows what herpes looks like for sure, and she said from what she is looking at, it just doesn't look like herpes, is what she said.
That gave me somewhat of relief, and relaxed me more last nite. I was SO stupid because I actually did break down and cry a bit, because I have been so stressed about this, because I know my marriage could be on the line.
The Doctor said that I am way to stressed and that I need to go home last nite and not think about anything, just relax. I do feel better today, both in my genital area and my mind, but the fear is still there.
The Doctor did prescribe me a antibiotic cream for the bumps on my genital area. It's Mometasone Furoate Cream, a long name, whatever the heck it is called, but I have applied on bumps last nite, and this morning, and the feeling does feel better down on my penis region. I do have a clear bump/bubble on the shaft of my genital, and I notice this morning it had a little white head, but that area feels better, and maybe it is also that I am taking 800g or mg of Advil ibro.
She wasn't going to take blood for antibody tests, because she was convinced by looking at and feeling the area, that it is not herpes. But I said I want to have the igg and igm tests. So she drew blood and said will call me with the results.
I am wondering how confident and relaxed should I be in the fact that 2 Doctors(1 urgent care and then this a regular family practitioner doctor)have looked at the penis region, and both say it is not herpes?
What is scary to me, is that I will get little tiny whiteheads on the tip of the "bumps", and then seem to go away. I have felt the area of my penis where the bumps and whiteheads are, and I never feel like a discharge. Last nite when she ran her finger over the bumps, whiteheads, it did feel a tad crusty(that might be to strong of a word to use), but the Doctor rubbed her finger over the area, and still said doesn't think its herpes. She said that the area in which the bumps are, looks to puffy, not the way that Herpes resembles she said. What makes me nervous is that she said that herpes change in bumps, etc. The thing that makes me nervous is that I get little whiteheads, that I didn't see the day before.
In your opinion, could I rest in what the Doctor said after seeing that region and saying not herpes, or should I worry until I get the actual blood tests, I am still nervous that it will be bad news I guess, trying to prepare for the worst?

Herpes is very common so for both doctors to say it is not herpes, and I'm sure they have seen a lot, I think you can rest assured it is not herpes and the test will confirm it.

Do not get the Igm test. They are worthless. If you ever had chicken pox it will show up positive and you will freak again.
CALL them and tell them NOT to do the IgM just the type specific IgG for both type 1 and type 2. You will get no good information from IGM! And why should you pay for crap? The fact that the doctor did not tell you that the IgM is crap just confirms that docotor's are not up on the treatment and symptoms of this virus.
Good luck.

You need to see a urologist for an accurate diagnosis. The urgent care and family practitioners are great for some things, but not this. A male friend of mine saw a dermatologist years ago for the same type of symptoms and was told he was fine. Years later he discovered it was human papilloma virus and he had to have surgery.

Hello, thanks for your encouraging words, they have helped me and it assures me because I see you are a Senior member also. I am supposed to get a call today or next week with the igg and igm results. I gotta admit I still am a bit nervous, and kinda would rather not know if it is herpes, because that is going to kill me. But I am praying that they call today and say, not herpes. I am going to keep you posted. I guess if I did have herpes, it wouldn't bother me so much if I was single, and didn't have to worry about crushing a family relationship.
So please stick by when I get the results, or I wouldn't mind if you write me now to give more words of wisdom and encouragement.
I hope I my results are good, will the lab/Doctor know how to read the percentage? Is it possible for the igm to be positive and the igg negative or ? and it sounds like to trust the igg. If it does show positive, should I take 1 more test to confirm?

Good morning,
I am going to get my IGG and IGM results this week, I am very nervous, and thinking about calling and telling them that I do not want the results, because I guess at least not knowing, maybe gives me hope, its kinda weird. Maybe I should get the results, because if I did and the Doctor gave me prescription for Valtrex or something to help stop potential outbreaks, that would be better wouldn't it? Because is passing herpes on during outbreaks more risky? She is also due to have a baby beginning of November '08. She has never shown any signs of any outbreaks which gives me some comfort, especially when I do not know if I have herpes. I do have a fear in the back of my mind that scares me alot, but I keep it in. 2 doctors have said it does not look like herpes to them and the 2nd doctor was not going to test, except that I said I would like a test, but now I am wondering if I should live in, I don't know, because I think that maybe that will be better, that at least I can't say for sure that I have herpes or not. That is probably stupid, I know, but I am trying to deal with this.
That is why I am inquiring on if I do find out I do, is it better to know, because then the doctor can give me medicine, to hopefully prevent any outbreaks, which would make it less risky to pass it on to my wife?? Any words of wisdom. I know this is probably a babbled mess, but please understand that I am very nervous. Thanks

I think this is good news. I called the nurse and they have tested for herpes 1 & 2 with Igm AND IgG, last week, and I just called in and the nurse says the results look good. She said that they results are showing negative on all of the blood tests for HSV 1 & 2.
She said the Doctor is going to call me to sign off, but the nurse said that she can see the results, and that they are showing negative. If this is correct, I will be shoutin, I think.
I did ask the nurse if at numbers show any low positive, does this make sense? I read a post that had mentioned a low positive. The nurse said that all of the tests are showing negative. She said that the doctor will confirm and sign off. I will keep everyone posted. I am still puzzled why these bumps are acting just like herpes? Any one who has read my previous posts, will know what I mean.
I guess when the Doctor confirms these results, will I be able to have confident in having intercourse, without the fear of passing on something to my wife, in something, I am referring to herpes. Or should I just shut up and be happy with both tests (IgG and IgM -for HSV 1&2)reading negative? Forgive my apprehensiveness, but just wondering if false positive a rarity.
Of course, by visual looking, I did have 2 doctors say pretty sure not herpes, even though had severe burning and pain for 2 days, and the blisters came to little whiteheads, and seemed to get a little scab and went away. Thats why I am a bit nervous.

Did they do a swab test of the blisters? They should have cause that would show up on the tests. I would still wear a condom for awhile and if you do have Herpes, then you probably have another outbreak soon and then you will know if it is. Someone said that a new case of Herpes sometimes does not show up in bloodwork yet. Don't mean to drag this back up but what do the doctors think your blisters or itching is from?

Ok, now I just went from a high to a low, scared low since you said this.
When I went in, there was nothing to swab, both doctors just looked at the appearance and said doesn't look like herpes. Both said that there was nothing open. The last Family Practioner doctor said that will take a blood test to ease my mind, this was last week and the results today were negative for hsv1 & 2.
So both times the Doctors looked, there was no sore to swab.
Why, do you think this is still herpes?
The nurse on the phone I have bugged about 5 times, and she knows how nervous I am. When she gave me the negative results, I think she could tell that I am WAY nervous.
So she had the Doctor sign off and she called back and said that my blood tests negative for Hsv1 & 2.
Can't I just rest in that and get off this board or ?
Didn't you respond to my posting a couple of weeks ago that if the 2 doctors have viewed and not thinking its herpes, than that is good and I should just relax?
I am just nervous now after you said that about my negative blood tests results

Here is your reply from 9:23am: This was comforting, and I thought with negative blood tests I thought you would really be convinced?

I think no, you don't have genital herpes, but the canker sores you have may be herpes type 1. You can get tested for this and find out for sure. The ones on your penis don't sound like type 2 herpes.

that last line you wrote made me confused
drewhendy1970
09-29-2008, 06:42 PM
what last line did you mean?
I feel bad because I didn't mean to jump on ya, I just read your post earlier today, and my heart sunk. I was so excited earlier this morning when the nurse called with the hsv 1 & 2 results, and said they are negative.
I called the nurse back, and I think they are getting annoyed, because I am calling to confirm, and they have said pretty much all they can, is what the nurse said. Last week I asked for Igg and Igm for HSV1 & 2 blood tests, and the nurse called with the negative results today.
I was happy, but still wondering why had herpes like reactions?
I respect you, and take your wisdom as very helpful, so I do want your hard truth :-)
I guess, in my mind, should I worry about a swab or with the blood tests, close my case?
Also, with the blood tests, that I took, how accurate are they? Lets say something happened 2 months ago, that may have been a risk? The other risks that I may have had was some years past.
Are they accurate or ?

Just the fact that you said that you had blisters. That is why and you mentioned it in your last post. Ido believe your doctors though. You still seem scared so that is why I say wear a condom and make sure that you are healed completely fron whatever you have now. That doesn't mean that it is Herpes, it just means let it heal and relax because you are making yourself sick. It will all be okay:)Or maybe you are calling them bisters and they aren't blisters maybe just a little rash or something. I believe that you are negative though and the tests should be accurate. Just thinking... When you had sex last did you use a warming lubricate or any type of new sex creme? Just thinking that that could cause a different allergy

Kilgore52,
I took comfort in the Negative results reported, but still nervous. Last nite I felt a heated sensation down in the genital region again. And this morning a bit more burning, but has subsided now. I sprayed some Dermoplast on the penis and seems to relieve the pain. I am nervous again, so I called the Doctor about 1 hour ago, and asked my Doctor of the Igg results numbers. She said that she received a Negative back from the lab. She said that if there were any reading of close to positive, she would have gotten the number reading sent also. My doctor is very nice, but I think she is starting to think I am nuts or anxiety issues. She said that all she can tell me is that reading for herpes is negative, like her nurse called me yesterday to say. I told the Doctor that with all of the symptoms, it makes me worried on the negative antibody reading. She said that I need to rest in that reading, and that whatever is going on, on my genitals, is not herpes
-----------------------------------------------
deleted
Doctor had given me some cream to put on the bumps - blisters on my penis, it seemed to help last week. So I have been putting it on everyday.
I just to to move ON!!! Know what I mean. What do you think of my last words here? Should I just move on and stop posting on this board? I have called the Doctor a couple times now to confirm if really reading negative for Hsv 1 & 2 with the IgG test, and she said YES!! She said that she doesn't know how else to help me.
Maybe I am just overreacting, but with the symptoms that have happened to me, and some burning today, has subsided within the last hour, you can understand why is tough to move on. But maybe I should just take the negative results, and be happy and move on? What do you think? Sorry for being annoying.

Hello again, I think you are so lucky that you are clean and this is your last chance to go down a good path with your life. This is a lesson for you and it has made you feel like a nut case. You have to stop this and move on and never look back and not do any risky things to hurt you or your family again. You have been given a new chance to move on. If you don't like your current situation at home, then move on but you have to do what's right for you and stop doing things that make you so scared and guilty about. NO YOU DO NOT HAVE HERPES. With that said... Don't come back on here unless you have something really wrong so we can all help you. You are not doing anything good for yourself now but dreaming up that you have it. NOW, If you react this way about other things, then you need to get some counseling about anxiety and mania. If not then go about your life and be happy that you got away with not contracting any dangerous disease. PS CONSIDER YOURSELF BORN AGAIN. BE GOOD

Wow, that was a wonderful posting, and I needed that. Thank you. I will keep that in my head, no matter what, I do NOT have herpes. I need to move on. I just pray that these symptoms will go away. You are confident in that I do not have herpes from everything I wrote, than I need to accept that also. I am going to the Doctors tonite, I was able to get an appointment, hopefully she can at least get me something for pain relief.
I need to take your advice and stay off of reading all of the posts, you are right, I am going nuts going back and forth.
If you don't mind me asking, and it will make me feel more confident, did you have the IgG blood test or how did you find out? If that is to personal, please forgive me, but would like wisdom on that.
You have been a HUGE help to me, and that is what the Doctor said also, stay off of the Boards.
Could you respond to me one more time, to this posting. I will check in a few minutes, thanks

Drew, You don't need any stories that have nothing to do with you. Just let the Doctor look one more time and tell what he thinks it is if it is not Herpes. You REALLY need to stop this. Your Doctor is going to fire you!!!:) You don't have HIV either

Hello Kilgore52 :-)
I went to the Doctors again last nite, because was having some pain again, like I let you know yesterday.
She knows that I am still paranoid of having Hsv 1 & 2. She said that she will look under the light again at the skin and bumps. She again said that I just do not see this as herpes. She brought a book with pictures in of what herpes can look like.
She said that what she is seeing on my penis(and no other place on my body), does not alarm her for herpes.
She did give me some medicine/cream to rub on the location on my penis. Its called "Mometasone Furoate".
I did ask her to do a swab, but she said there is not of a location to swab, but she found a little red spot, so she did a swab with her little swab stick.
I did ask her if I could have some Vicodin, for the pain when it comes. She did give me a prescription for that. Iasked to see the results of IgG on paper from the Lab. She showed me:
IgG testing for Hsv 1 & 2
IgG: Negative
Igm: Negative
(and another Negative for something, I can't remember what it was).
The Doctor said that when she has a possible individual who has herpes, recent infection, the IgG may show Negative sometimes, but she see's the IgM active positive. She said that the contact that I had a few years ago, would show on the IgG for sure, and even if the contact was recent(she said within a month has been her experience), the people that she has given the Herpes test IgG, will show a trace, and for sure they read Positive on the IgM testing, because whether it be for herpes or not, there is some sort of activity, fighting a virus, enough to show antibodies.
Does this make sense? Is this pretty much right on Kilgore52?
She said that it does resemble a bit like psoriasis? or maybe yeast?
I asked her, why the bumps and a couple of blister looking, and occasional harsh pain sometimes. She said this can occur for many reasons, and sometimes it takes a bit to find out.
She said for sure she wants me to see a Uroligist(I didn't even know what that was :-)
Kilgore52, with you having herpes and you know what you are talking about, do I rest in this, or get a 2nd opinion, and another IgG test?
She did swab, but she said this is just for my comfort that it is not herpes.
I felt more confident coming out of there and seeing the results on paper, but my symptoms are giving me some pain. Today it is a bit better, and last nite was better.
Is it true that the IgM would at least show a trace of some antibody, especially because of the sickness that I am experiencing?
I got home, and my wife is asking what the heck is it? I said that the Doctor wants me to see a Urologist, and gave me cream and Vicodin for pain.
Kilgore52, between you and me, I am still a bit scared because of the blisters, and the time when they did have a little whitehead and seemed crusty a bit after. Now they are just bumps, but I have had the "bumps" with no pain for a good amount of months.
The only incident that I had a couple of months ago was the incident that I stated before, and you are getting sick of me saying it.
I want to put this all behind me, but the pain persits off and on.
Oceanus posting keeps sticking in my head, but there are millions of people who have herpes, and everybody is different, so I cannot let that put me living in fear, I have to remember that.
So Kilgore52, when I come on, I will just read your post and realize that each body and circumstance is different. If I do not do that, I will live in fear, which does not help my body at all either.
What do you think of all that the Doctor says, the confidence that the Doctor has, also the tests, and she swabbed last nite she said, only for my assurance more.
I need you to write me back with your wisdom and response on what the Doctor has said, and I will only read your posting. Thanks, can't wait to hear from you.
PS. If you don't mind, can you tell me what you are going through, any symptoms with the herpes or ? If that is personal, please let me know, and I will not ask again

Drew, We are going to focus on you ONLY. I will not tell you any stories because you are going to live through them and dream them as your own. The doctor is right You do not have Herpes. The urologist is a doctor who specializes in the bladder and anything having to do with your urinary tract. The bumps are probably from you scratching it and the blisters too. You just have irritation. After she clears you of the swab test then you are home free but the burn to pee is probably an infection from yeast or not enough water. Let me know because I am concerned for your sanity. AND DON'T let me catch you asking more questions to anyone in order to feed you more ideas of what you have. Be sweet to your wife and act peaceful with her. I know that you are driving her crazy.ha

I think you need to see a psychiatrist.
You're stressed probably due to guilt or new baby..I don't know what ...but you have issues.
You've had the test and several doctors tell you you don't have herpes but for some reason you "want" to have it.

Stop worrying about herpes. As I said in an earlier post, you really need to see a urologist, who is a specialist in the areas of STD's. There are many STD's out there beyond herpes. I would bet $1,000 that you have the HPV virus, which is treatable but contagious as long as you have the blisters. Whether you have herpes or not, blisters on your penis is not normal. Please just go to the urologist.

I read online where a Dr. said the IgM test was "useless" and he can't understand why Dr.'s still use them, because of their inaccuracy. He also said that if someone has ever had chicken pox, which is a form of Herpies, that the person will always test positive for antibodies on the IgM test.
If I were you, I would wait a couple more months and take the IgG test again, and have them check for for HSV1 and 2. Sometimes it takes awhile for antibodies to show. I'm not sure how long you have waited. It might not have been long enough.

Kilgore52,
Thanks for your words. You are right, I gotta get off this board, and I guess unless another test or swab shows positive, I better stay off.
I am being honest though when I tell you that this pain is so hard, and right now, the Vicodin is the only thing helping, but the pain comes and goes. I just hate it!! If the pain and stuff wasn't happening on my penis and all of the herpes symptoms, I wouldn't be worried.
I have a question about herpes, just to you. I heard that herpes would not hang on this long with the pain and stuff. I heard if it were herpes, it would have come and gone by now. I don't know, all I know is that I have pain in my penis now, and in my body, please pain, just go away.
I really do love my wife and I made a mess of things, thats for sure, and my selfishness. I just don't want her to get sick and experience the pain of what I am going through.
I gotta admit Kilgore52, that when I did look down at my penis and I did see little whiteheads on my bumps, I got really scared. And a couple nites, the pain at nite was so bad, I could have cried.
I just guess it isn't due to herpes? I am a bit afraid of the swab test results, but I will check in and let you know.
Also, in your opinion, show I take another IgG test in a couple of months? What do you think. I am only going to read your post when I login.
Not to be mean to others, but I just need to focus on what you are saying.
I gotta believe that you and the doctors care enough and have seen enough, to tell me if what I have is herpes.
Kilgore52,
Thanks for your words.

Drew, a urologist is your best bet. If you have an infection, then you need to clear it up. It may be something inside your penis. I don't think it's serious but it could be a number of things. The doctor can feel your prostate and see if it is swollen and can see if maybe you have something like peyronie(sp) disease. That can cause the symptons you talk about. It's no big deal either. You just need to see why you are in so much pain. I don't think Herpes is the answer. I think it a man thing

A. Go to a Urologist and B. Stay out of the Strip clubs, or whatever you were doing to put yourself in high risk situations to catch a potential disease.

Kilgore52,
I am going to make an appointment with the Urologist, thanks for the advice.
I will keep you statused on the test results, and I will also check out what you mentioned: peyronie(sp) disease
Thanks :-)

Hey Drew, I really didn't mean to cut you off! I was just a little tired. If you need to talk, then I'll be here for you. I am rested now and if you panic then I will help. I can really tell that you are remorseful so again, if you need to talk then I'll answer.:)

I Hope you had a peaceful weekend and with no pain?

Thank you :-) I did have a nice weekend, especially yesterday. No pain yesterday and this morning. A little "heated" feeling in that area yesterday, but turned out good.
I am getting confident, but then the pain and the thoughts of herpes because how else could I explain all that I experienced the last couple of weeks, know what I mean? I still have the bumps, but they do not hurt so far. I just wonder because I don't think if they were herpes bumps/blister looking, would they stay on my penis this long?
I know, you can tell that I am still nervous that herpes will come out, and I am sorry for those thoughts, but it seems like what I have explained and a couple of Doctors have looked at, say not herpes. I am just trying to explain it and the pain and symptoms in my mind, since the Doctors do not know exactly what it is, please understand my fear a bit(I know you do, because you have been SO kind and patient with me).
In your thoughts of thoughts, from ALL the pain and symptoms that I went through, and you knowing what you are saying(your wisdom), would you still say with confidence that I do not have herpes?
I gotta admit, it is a little easier to think that right now, when my pain is gone :-) but?? Know what I mean. Sorry if I sound annoying again, but it is just tough.
I am going to enjoy the pain free, but I keep thinking if it would only affect me, I wouldn't be so worried, but can affect my family.
My wife and I have not had intimate contact for around 3 weeks now, because of my fear and soreness.
She is aware of the pain that I am experiencing in that area, but she does not know my fear of herpes possibility.
Your thoughts please :-)
Please don't hate me for writing this, and still asking you opionion about if you are confident I do not have herpes, after all of the pain and herpes like symptoms I went through, along with the possible risk.

Drew, Hi, Let's just rest in the fact that this week your results will come back and prove whether or not you have Herpes. That will be your answer. So enjoy yourself until you hear. Hold out for your sanity a little longer for sex until the swab comes back. I do believe your pain is started from your thoughts. Let me know when you hear.

Kilgore,
I have been taking a product, that my brother has recommended, that has helped his immune sytem immensely. I forgot about it, so I called and let my brother now some of my immune issues(without mentioning that I am afraid I might have herpes).
I started loading up on it(it is all natural and completely safe and I had a Doctor review it), and since that time last week, I have felt WAY better. So, I am going to continue taking this product.
I will post Kilgor when I have the swab results.
To get accurate swab results, does there have to be a totally open wound? The doctor said that she saw a red spot that she swabbed.
I hope that I can be as confident as the Doctors, you and others, in that this is not herpes, and hopefully move on, and not live in fear that my wife will get something one day, and our relationship will be done.

Kilgore,
I called the Doctor and spoke with the nurse(about an hour ago)
The took a swab test last week. It didn't appear there was like an "open" sore, but the Doctor swabbed a little red spot, and the area of the skin on the penis, close to the bumps.
I still had the pain last week when she swabbed, but didn't appear to be a noticeable sore, little the sore little whitehead(s)that I had the previous week.
The nurse told me today that the swab came back negative. So this is good I am assuming. The nurse said that even without an "open - oozing" sore(is how she put it), if there is any trace of herpes, there will always show a trace, because the Doctor swabbed on a location, and the penis head was still sore. She said that from her experience and testing for herpes, that if there is a trace of the virus, the Doctors swab would have picked it up, because it is such a specific test of tiny, microscope particles.
She said that when they receive a 'Negative' result reading from the Lab, that means they did not find a trace amount that shows herpes.
She said that if there were a trace of herpes(if trace is the right word to use), maybe "level" is a better word to use. Anyway, she said that if there were even a low reading, and not a definite 'Negative' reading, the Doctor would receive a specific number-level reading, even if it were a small detection.
Does this make sense?
So, an IgM and IgG and a swab(not an open lesion, but red dot and red skin)2 months out from possible herpes exposure, negative readings on all, then a definite not herpes confidence?
Just wondering why ALL of the dang herpes like symptoms, and extreme pain, blisters, pimple whiteheads, numbness in legs, tingling, horrible burning and pain on penis...etc.
With all of your experience, is there someone like me that has had all of the symptoms, but showing up negative. I am just asking because I would like to know which direction to take, and if it is safe to have sexual contact, and not be afraid of passing herpes on?
I hope you all don't mark me as crazy, and if the symptoms come back, then I will really be nervous.
Do you all think it would be to my advantage to take an IgG test 6 months out, or should I let an rest, because the swab is also very accurate?

I believe that your symptoms were from stress with the numbness and tingling and you may have rubbed your penis raw from checking and rechecking. The blister part? Was that shown to the doctor when you had that too? All I can say is that there is no sign of Herpes from the report so I feel you are safe. The rest should be checked by a urologist for other things going on. Your blood showed no antibodies for Herpes and I feel that maybe your guilt may be in the way of your joy of not having Herpes. Was the blister after she had oral sex cause the friction from having a condom on could have blistered you. If that was what happened right after, then that was the possible reason. If all the pain is gone now then I think you can rest knowing what the doctor said.

Kilgore, all I know is that I had the bumps for a while before the incident in July '08
All that happened at that time was oral with condom on, and bare bottom sitting on my bare penis for a while.
The pain in the penis and burning in the genital area, and extreme pain at times, did not start happening until last 2 weeks ago.
So I just remember that the red bumps/blisters at one point got like a little tiny whitehead on them, then seemed like that was gone quick and seemed like maybe a little crust. This is what I remember.
I didn't have a friction on that caused the bumps, and the burning and pain happened a couple of weeks ago, but I noticed the bumps before the incident in July
So this is what happened.
Sounds like the nurse said if there were any trace with or without a "lesion", the swab would pick it up, but she said that it was negative.
And she said that the negative Igm & Igg also.
Kilgore, the incident was in July, so 2 months ago about.
Today, and it seems like when I get nervous, I start to feel a bit uncomfortable down there, and maybe it is still tender. I do notice the red bumps still there but not really any pain, sometime discomfort though.
I gotta leave work now, but write what you think, I just want to make sure sexual contact is ok, without any reservations. Have a good nite, I will look forward to your response tomorrow :-)

Well ,I feel that you are going to be clear and whatever you decide regarding sex is your choice and I can't make that decision for you. I do feel that the condom def. clears you of anything for oral.

This is the last time I will post but I need to know why you choose to ignore everyone's advice except for the one whose telling you what you want to hear. No one on this board is a doctor. You need to see a urologist. Nothing anyone says -- whether it eases your mind or not -- will make the problem go away. Chances are you have HPV. If it goes untreated, you will pass it to your wife or anyone you have sex with. HPV is the main reason women develop cervical cancer. Take my advice or go live in your dream world but know that if you don't see a qualified doctor, you may continue to spread this disease.

carol, If you read my posts then you will see that I have told him just what you are saying and two doctors have told him that he doesn't have Herpes. Now, The next thing if you will read, is I told him numerous times to see a urologist didn't I? Telling him off is not going to help him one bit. I have mentioned everything plus questioned him as to why he did this in the first place. I'm not here to judge him and I want to protect his wife too and baby. I suggested that his wife go to the doctor so If I were you then I would read everything before you decided to diagnose him yourself. I just happen to want to walk him through this. He is not taking this lightly. He needs to concentrate on what he may have. Please help him all you want. I am not trying to be his doctor, just suggesting to him what steps to take. I feel that his numerous visits to the doctors would have seen and tested for warts.. I have told him numerous times to go back and ask his doctor questions . I have suggested HPV. These two virus's are rampant and nothing to be ashamed of. I want him to stay calm and to keep checking on his symptoms and not stress and freak out so he can stay focused. You are right we are not doctors and I just did not want to give up on pushing him in the right direction because we can't erase what he has done and the main concern from day one as he stated was his wife and baby. Why he didn't think about this before? Who knows? But he did this and is paying for it. What else do you suggest? I can't imagine him wanting to go through this again in the future. Hopefully he has learned his lesson. Again what do I know?

Drew, One more time : 1. Go to a urologist for pain. 2. Take your wife to her obgyn and check for HPV and any Stds be fore the baby is born. Maybe you can tell her doctor your story and why you are scared. 3. Test your blood for any Stds :)besides Herpes. THEN and only then, I feel everyone will tell you that it is your decision to make what you do after that with your life. Good luck

Kilgore, thanks SO much for all of your writings.
I will do what you say, I was able to get an Urologist appt on next Wednesday.
I am bummed because last nite, I had to stay up late and drive, and I started getting some discomfort down in that area again. I got scared because it feels like that pain maybe coming back. Oh well, what else can I do, if this keeps up, and it is something, my marriage may be over, so what the heck.
I am doing all that I can think of as far as herpes testing, and I do see what you are saying about any other std testings. I guess I will have to ask my Doctor on that one, being that they are convinced that it does not look like herpes.
Oh, the one question I had to you regarding the swab is, is that true what the nurse said that even if there were not an open sore, by swabbing like the Doctor did last week, if there were herpes, some trace would have been picked up. That is the only question I have, I know you are getting sick of my questions, but I did want to get your wisdom on that.
I don't know anymore as far as why the pain down in my area. It was totally gone, and now as of last nite, I started feeling some in that area again.
This morning it is feeling a bit better, I did put some aloe vera gel down in that location, and it feels better.
You are right, that I am and will be further punished for what I have done.
I am getting your wisdom and support, so please don't drop.
I will try to be less annoying :-) I thought with the negative swab, I would be clean free, and was confident, until last nite some weird feeling started in that area, and I went home jumped in bed right away and over slept and late into work, because I needed 8 hours of sleep. It feels better this morning, but still an uneasy feeling down there.

Drew, trust me when I say this : I am no expert at all. I don't have any more wisdom than the next experienced person. I believe the doctor and nurse.
I felt that you were out of control and needed one on one support. I know that your pain comes and goes like last night
panic all over again. Just get yourself checked and stop thinking about the punishment thing. No one deserves to have an STD. It can happen to anyone. But, You just put yourself in a high risk situation with a strip club. And you have more than you in your family. Doctors can test and know how to find out. Not me. I'm only here for support and nothing else. I'm going to be out of pocket for awile but I will check in every so often. Good luck:)

I don't want to scare you, but it does sound like it could still be herpes. Have you not read a word I said that for some people (like myself for example) it can take up to SIX months post exposure for herpes antibodies to show up in the blood? I had severe symptoms, like you. They got worse and worse as time went by, but still each blood test showed negative and two healthcare practitioners, like you, said it didn't look like herpes. I'm telling you, many doctors act like they are know-it-alls, but they are not. Herpes OBs look different for different people and at different times. It's only been 2 months since your possible exposure. Bumps, redness, soreness, tingling, burning...all symptoms of herpes!
Now, regarding HPV, men cannot be tested for most types of HPV, and the only type that shows symptoms is when it is the HPV type that causes genital warts. So if it's not genital warts that you have, then your symptoms are not caused by HPV.
I'd suggest going to Planned Parenthood, a urologist or an STD clinic, where they have much more experience dealing with patients with STD/STIs.
Herpes symptoms get worse at night and then feel quite a bit better in the morning (except for sores)...this is you in a nutshell!
Also, a swab test on just a red area of your skin that has no open sores WILL NOT be good enough for detecting herpes. It has to be an open weeping (plenty of virus present) sore that is very new, about 48 hours old or less.
Sorry to freak you out....but I have herpes II and it was not detected until more than SIX MONTHS post exposure and I had FOUR blood tests during those six months, only the 4th one tested positive (after six months). So be patient, keep getting tested for herpes, but also get tested for all other STDs, and get your wife tested, too...knowing your sexual history, you might have other STDs.

Thankyou, I had a rough last couple of days, but today I feel good so far.
I will be going to the Urologist appt this Wednesday 10/15/08. I will let you know what the Doc says. Have a good weekend :-)
I am trying not to be obsessive on this Board, but I do check in to see if you have written anything to me. Yesterday was so painful, it is SO hard not to think herpes! I try to get that out of my mind, I get a good mood when I feel good, like this morning, but when I get the symptoms and pain back, I get the constant nervous feelings, you know, the symptoms match herpes, it is just a matter of time before this affects my wife, and then she will leave me..ALL of these thoughts will go through my head.

Drew, You are jumping to conclusions and future telling, plus you really don't know whats going on . This can be symptoms of many things. You are going to the doctor Wed. and you will know more then. Whatever you may or may not have will not be life threatening and you WILL work through it. Try not to worry and have a good weekend too.:) DREW, 1 OUT OF 5 PEOPLE HAVE HERPES. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. You will be okay.

Thanks I know, but I just wanted to see if he was mentally okay. Thanks for all your support Seeking, to everyone. I just hope that he didn't have a real outbreak and is in a panic!

Hello Kilgore, this is Drew. I am just checking in to give an update.
I guess all I still have to go on is the negative herpes results and being told I do not have herpes.
I did go to the Urologist a few weeks ago, and it was about a 5 minute visit. He didn't do any testing of urine of any kind. He basically looked at the penis area and said this was not herpes. So I said, ok what then? He said that he thinks it is some type of "irritation", but will go away. Oh WOW, I am glad I wasted time off of work and insurance dollars to be told that!!
So kinda still confused, so I have been researching myself, and honestly, I have been researching for relief, and treating my symptoms as if I have herpes(although I am told not, but no one can figure it out).
I have found some HUGE dang relief, on a couple of self, natural treatments, and watching what I am eating, and honestly I have been feeling alot better!!
Without mentioning any specific products, I will say that it has to do with starting a regimen on liquid oxgyen orally and cream oxygen applied to skin, and I have felt alot better! I have been doing for a week, and I feel alot better, and even a bit more confident. I was taking some vicodin for pain, but have been able to not take any this week, as I have just started the oxygen products this week, already feeling relief.
I have also been studying on acidic vs. alkalinizing foods. I am trying to do better on the food, which is my downfall.
I do have to let you know still that I am nervous that if my wife ever broke out in the genital area, that I have genital herpes, and would still ruin relationship, so that is everyday in the back of my mind.
I guess I am holding on to it is not herpes, but treating it as if it is, so treating naturally, instead of medicine.
I was REAlly spooked a few weeks ago, because my wife(who has gotten an occasional cold sore(s)in the past), did break out on her lip and above her lip, with some blister looking bumps. So my fear took over, and right away, I thought hsv1 given by me, and fearful that sometime will appear on the genital.
Please PRAY that will never happen, it would not be good.
So, how are you doing? What are your comments about what I have just written
Look forward to hear from you asap. I will check in an hour or so :-)

Wow Drew, I can't believe that I heard from you. I'm so glad that you are better and you tested negative. Your wife can give YOU herpes he if she has an outbreak on the lips and has oral sex on you. I'm also glad that you have found stuff to relieve pain. I will pray that all is well for you and your wife and I know that it is in the back of your mind. Remember what the doctor said and test again in 2 months to make sure you can relax. Good Luck and great to hear from you again.
