What's the best place to take the injectible medicine? My RE prescribed Follistum (just 75 ml), and dh did it in the thigh tonight, and that hurt. Is it better in the stomach? Where do you do it in the stomach? Just below the belly button?

Thanks for any information.

Mare,

Does it matter where in the belly? Below the belly button?

I take my shots in my hip. Can barely feel it. My doctor recommended the newer form of shots with my gonal f. I have taken the other for four months. It's scary breaking vials open every time to get a shot. The gonal f now comes in one vial and you mix the water and draw your shots from the vial. When finished ... cover and refridgerate. The needles are small like diabetics have. Can't feel a thing. Goodluck sunshine!!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I am on Pergonal and I have my injections on the back hip.....I am not too sure if that area is an option for you, but I find that it only burns a little ....I have been on injections for 2 months now and was given the option for the stomache or the hip and....I could not dream of having the injection on my stomache....

My husband is the one who gives me the injections....There is no way I could give the injections to myself!!!

Good Luck!!

I definitely had my follistim injections in my back hips. We tried to alternate but after awhile I couldn't remember where we did it the day before! The injection doesn't hurt but the follistim burns. My nurse suggested waiting just a little while after you've mixed the stuff up to take the edge off, and also putting ice on the area where you are going to do the injection. The ice really helped a lot with the burning, I found. My partner got to be so good at the injections that I honestly didn't feel thing as the needle went in. It always burned, though. Sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. It is clearly an excellent excuse to demand a foot rub, back rub, etc. Something to distract you from the pain!

DH used to be a parametic, so he is really good at giving the shots. I don't feel it going in or out at all. What hurts is the *&%^ follistum. I will try ice tonight, and try the stomach, I think. I'm not sure. I looked at my arm today, though, from when I gave blood on Monday, and I look like a heroine addict. She must have poked me four times before hitting the vein, and then I bruised. This child of mine better be very grateful to her mommy (LOL).

My own mom had a some trouble conceiving and she reminded us of all that she did to have us ("When I think of what I went through to have you kids!!") whenever we were bad. I definitely feel like I have my guilt trip ready to spring into action! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Try the ice. Also, my nurse said that it doesn't do any harm if you let the follistim sit for a few minutes after you've mixed it and that that might really help it not burn quite so much. I was never patient enough to wait. I just wanted to get it over with. Do you do your shots at 6pm every night?

We do the shots between 8:00 and 9:00 - is that bad? I usually don't get home from work until 6:30, and I like to have dinner first. After the first two, I have felt tingly all down the leg that I had the shot in - weird, I know! RattyG- you crack me up http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I have no idea where the 6pm thing came from. My nurse just said "Do it at 6pm"--I even started thinking--that makes no sense--what if people are in different time zones!? So, I wouldn't sweat it. Just enjoy the tingle! At least it is temporary.

Girls ... my fellow heroine arms. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
I decided to request the same gal who does my blood draws. We have a pretty big lab at our hospital and I special request the same person because as we all know some are better and WORSE than others. It should be quick and no bruising! So, if you find one you like ... ask for them.

One more thing ... I think they just want you to have the shots within and as close to 24 hours apart. So basically around the same time every day. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif Goodluck gals! Congrats to you Ratty G.

I am getting ready to start Pergonal and the dr office gave me an informational video that showed precisely where and how to mix and administer the shot. You might ask your dr. about it.
Good Luck!

We had the informational video for follistim and hCG as well (pregnyl). One thing though is that the video showed the hCG shot being done with monstrously huge needle. I was petrified. On the video they showed the woman's husband giving her this mongo shot and I was like "Nuh-uh! Trained professionals only please!" When we got to the doctor's office, the shot was actually not big at all. It was a huge relief!!!!

I think I will ask for the video. I had "injection training" for both the HCG and the follistum, at $60 each time from my RE !!! They charge me for everything.

I am really appalled at some of the things folks are forced to pay for. We were given the video as well as an training session with a fabulous nurse and it cost us just our co-pay for the visit ($20). We've paid for a lot out of pocket--including (gulp) the follistim and hCG which were wildly expensive, and the IUI, etc. But for petesake, it sounds like some people are just not being given a break on anything.

I can't believe they charged to show you how to administer! That should have been included in your regular appointment. Do they also charge when you use the restroom at the office, or look at a magazine in the lobby??

Maybe that's what the $100 / month is for (can't figure it out)... I am switching after this month anyway if things don't work out.
