For some people outbreaks are very painful and bothersome. For others not so much. They say it gets better as time passes.
The main reason for treatment is to ease the pain and suffering or to help reduce shedding of the virus to protect a partner who does not have it from getting it. You do not HAVE to take meds. It's a personal/financial choice.
