Hello,

My Mom had a stroke the Sunday before last. 3 weeks prior to that she had been diagnosed with Rhematoid Arthritis and then suffered the stroke. She has aphasia, confusion, and her right side has been severely weakened. She is in a inpatient rehab hospital. The doctors are very concerned for her cognitively saying their hasn't been any improvement in that area. She too has lost 30 lbs since the Rhematoid Arthritis struck. Can anyone tell me what to expect. It is so sad.....Thanks!

Hello Shawna44,
My husband had a massive stroke 2 yrs. ago this month. He was in a rehab hospital also and got very agressive therapy. The director of this rehab hospital said his cognitive level was 0. Well, he was wrong. He got great therapy and can feed, walk, bathe, and dress himself. He still has speech problems but understands everything that you say and understands everything that is going on. He just can't speak his words that he is trying to say and usually ends up drawing us a picture (which works out great). He sings a lot and loves to go back to the rehab center and visit the therapists and nurses who cared for him. Every day is a NEW DAY for him and he does something new.
Just have patience and love your Mom every day and she will get better.
Love to you both,
Lynda

Hello and thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I am so glad your husband is recovering. I went to see my Mom today and she looked so much better. Today is 2 weeks since the stroke. The color has come back to her face and she seemed stronger and her speech was better. She seemed more aware of what was going on. I am very proud of her. I hope and am sure your husband will continue to improve, but it sounds like he is doing remarkably well!!!!!
