My Dad has had shingles symptoms for about a month and a half now. He's gone through the stages of having the rash, which has now disappeared. He says the pain is still there and pretty bad, as if it was a sunburn. Is there anything that can be done at this point to make it go away completely? 1.5 months seems to be a long time for something like this to last for.

Try Neurontin or Lyrica. Both work for nerve pain that your dad is experiencing. I too have had them for about 6 weeks and still have the nerve pain. Unfortunately this can be permanent. This does not mean it will be, but certainly possible. Both meds work. Lyrica was developed specifically for shingles, although it helps ALL neuropathy for some people. Neurton is cheaper, but with insurance he could try either or both to see which works better.

Thank you, Wendy. I printed out your reply and will show my Dad. I sure hope what he has isn't permanent. That would be terrible! I hope yours gets better too.
