My grandmother is 86 years old and is in her last stages of dementia. She has completely stopped taking solid food . But sometime takes half glass of rice gruel and half glass of coffee. She is found of coffee and hence we give her once in 4-5 hours a day avoiding night time. We have a nurse to take care of her hygiene, how long do you think she will survive? we dont want her to suffer like this.

My mother lived on liquids for 9 months, and then passed away. It was hard to see her lose so much weight, but she never felt pain, hunger or thirst. She lived to be 99.

Love,

Martha

In his final stage, my DH lasted about 10 days and in that process didn't suffer and was in no pain. At that point too he was on Thorazine to help calm him and I'm sure that helped to keep him peaceful.
