I am 52. I had no periods for 8 months, then had one. Doc sent me for a uterine biopsy which was negative. Then I went a year with no period, and my hot flashes had stopped. My doctor put me on Effexor for depression, but it caused my blood pressure to drop when I changed positions, so he stopped it after two months. Then I had another period and my hot flashes that had stopped have started back again with a vengeance. I read Effexor withdrawal can cause someone to have a period even postmenopausal, but why have the hot flashes begun again? I've been off the Effexor for six weeks.

Just a suggestion here...to have your thyroid checked. I have thyroid problems and the symptoms can mimic menopause symptoms. I can't tell which makes me more uncomfortable. My surgical menopause or thyroid problems. But when I was on a SSRI everything subsided. When I stopped the SSRI everything fell apart. If I can get things to settle down I will never go off my meds again. But right now I'm a mess.
