I am so fustrated with this taking tempature business. Every day I take it it is a differnt number and no where near the number it was the day before. Example, Last Mon 97.5 ,Tues 96.2, Wed 98.4, Thurs 95.3, Fri 96.8, Sat 98.7, Sun 94.7,Mon 95.6, Tues, 97.8, Today 96.1. There is no pattern on the chart and I am getting really confused. I think I am going back to buying the OPKs. I feel more positive and get an answer of the big O much more clearer.

Amen sister, I have been temping since my miscarriage (doc made me) and it goes up and down and up and down, since my period started it is really high one day, then really high the next. I didnt temp when I was trying to get preg...at least I didnt write it down, so I dont know what it was then. BUt I am beginning to think that either Im screwed up or temping is not a good way to tell fertility...

First you have to remember it can take a few cycles to get the hang of it. You also have to make sure you are following the rules for doing it right. Such as the same time every morning, get at least 3 hours of sleep prior,no getting up,moving around too much, make sure you arent sleeping in a drafty area, and last certain things you drink the night before can effect your temp. The key thing is alcohol will effect your temp so even drinking a glass of wine the night before can throw off your temp. You would actually be surprised at what can throw off your temps.
BBT is an awesome way to chart your cycles and see if there are some fertility issues. If you havent read and follow the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It is a great book to read when trying to understand BBT.
Another key thing to remember is it is a heck of a lot cheaper than the OPKs.

I think my problem is that we do not have any air conditioner or heating system, so basically my body is what the temp outside is. Although some nights were the same and the temp was very different.
I am only doing it because my doc said to. But I think there are to many variables that can mess it up to be completely reliable.
But thats just my two cents.

The first month I did it, I was pretty frustrated with all the ups and downs too, but now in the third month it's making more sense. I'm still trying to figure out exactly when I ovulate based on the charts because I don't have a really sudden increase, but it makes me feel proactive.
