View Full Version : ingrown hair I can't see

For the past two months I've had what seems to be an ingrown hair near my chin (i'm male btw).

Here are some facts:
- reddish spot (about 5 mm in diameter)
- slightly raised where the hair is (I assume)
- happened after plucking a very coarse hair in that exact spot
- not painful
- not growing in size

Now I have grown a beard to hide the red spot because it can be annoying and I have had a bad experience with shaving while having an ingrown hair (got infected and HUGE). This time around it seems more subdued but I have no idea how to remove the hair (if there is any) because I simply can not see the hair!

I would really like to have the reddish spot disappear so I can shave and not feel self-conscious.

I am seeking two answers:
- How can I remove a hair I can't see and prevent infection?
- If I should consult a specialist what kind should I consult (dermatologist, GP, cosmetic surgeon, laser hair removal specialist)?

Thank you all for your input. :)

wow...and to think these boards once had a bunch of people willing to help, encourage and advise others. :(

All I see now are a bunch of threads with 0 or 1 reply....
