I called Planned Parenthood (which does not have a gyn or endo. doc. so they did basic test's for thyroid and other abnormalities in the blood) to get my results today and she said everything was O.K meaning that the preg. test was neg. and their were no signs of PCOS in my blood but still recommended that I keep my endo. appt at the end of the month. So I will still keep my fingers crossed and it does not sound like any new information.

I have a question for all with PCOS already, what to do about hair growth on my chin I don't have a lot but I am constantly in my face pulling out hairs or tweezing does anyone elso do something that works. Does vaniqua help or no?

Hi there.

Definitely keep the endo appt. My bloodwork is completely 100% normal yet I do have PCOS. No hormone problems, sugars/insulin normal, no high male androgens, LH is normal. It was really tough to diagnose me, to say the least.

I don't have excess hair so I don't have much to offer you in the way of ideas, but I have heard lots of ladies being pleased with Vaniqua. You might try the PCOS website http://www.soulcysters.com. The message boards there have a board called "Hair In The Wrong Places" where ladies discuss their tips and tricks for getting rid of unwanted facial hair.

Good luck!

I have lip wax every week... http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif excessive facial hair is a BIG thing on PCOSers...donīt discard the possibility of PCOS yet.

also, I have some "funny" hair around the nipples , around and under the belly buttom, and on my inner thighs. They are a little bit longer than the normal hair on my body, and my RE recognized it immediately as a "male pattern hair" or something like this.. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/tongue.gif

GOOD LUCK to you! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/angel.gif

PLM - When you go to your MD visit if it is early in the morning ask for a fasting insulin (not sugar) and a 2 hour insulin level. This is almost like a glucose tolerance test, but it measures the amount of insulin your body produces in accordance to the amount of sugar in your system. After the fasting level is done, they will either tell you to eat, or give you something to drink, and then do either a 1 hour or 2 hour test later. I personally think it sometimes helps to go to the MD already fasting, that way you are prepared to go ahead and have it done, instead of them telling you "we can do that later" The reason for this test is that most (not all) women with PCOS have insulin resistance. Normal levels for my lab are 13 - 26. My fasting was 16.3 and my 2 hour was 193. I obviously produce too much insulin. I hope this info. helps.

You can also have a transvaginal u/s done. Some tech's and MD's can see a "ring of pearls" which is PCOS on your ovaries.

Hope this is helpful.

I have PCOS but do not suffer from excessive hair. However, PCOS is caused by your pancreas not being able to correctly process your insulin (much like a diabetic). My doc recently put me on a diabetic diet to see if it would help. So far it looks like it is helping. I usually do not have AF without meds and this month with an extrememly low sugar diet AF came right on schedule. I am hoping this is the key to my problem and the answers to my prayers. It has also given me a chance to lose some weight and create better eating habits.

If the hair is embarassing or a pain in the neck to tweeze, I would look in to electrolysis. Just make sure you go to a professional as the results will be much better.

Hope this helps,

Amy
