I started taking 250mg 3 times a day of one brand of Niacin for the past 2 months. I decided to raise the level so I bought a different brand of 500mg. I almost flushed everytime time with 250mg type so I figured I would flush all the time with 500mg type. The 500mg type is vegetarian Niacin and hasn't made me flush at all. I found that kinda weird since it was twice the amount. Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks

I've been taking Niacin since I was 12 years old (I'm 55 now!), and find that upping dosages do not work. Stick with what gives you a healthy flush and stop there, anything else seems to run right outta your drains! I think your liver (?) shuts out any over dosages and kicks the entire amount away.

It helps amazingly on cholesterol, but not everyone should take this high an amount.

The reason is that when you take a larger dose of niacin on a regular basis, you no longer experience the flush or you just get a slight flush. If you went for a day with no niacin and then took 500mg, you would get a strong flush.

How high of a dose a person needs depends on what they are taking it for. For allergies a person might need a higher dose than the flushing level. (It works best for allergies if you take at least 3 grams of vitamin C, too.)

If you have never taken Niacin before and took 3000 mg of it and had a sever flush, which could be expected. Could this flush feelings remain in your body as in the warmth of the skin and what not last more than a couple days? My pharmacist says its possible but i see here it should be out in 30 minutes.

i took this much because i was trying for a natural aid with depression like symptoms. not for any other crazy reasons....

thanks

Sure; if you have a healthy liver, that much can be felt in a slowly deminishing degree for a week, hard to say.

That was WAY too much to take at any one time and you risked severe blood pressure problems. Who suggested such a high dosage?

stupid me i guess, i was prescribed a anti depressant and something i saw said that people took up to 11 000 of this for succesful treatment so i thought this wouldnt be to much, but guess i was wrong. have you heard of it lasting a week before?

When i first had the flush, my cheeks felt puffy, my lips felt puffy, and my whole body felt like it was hot. I was red pretty much everywhere.

Now its just the sensation of warmth randomly on me, does that sound like the niacin could actually do that still. This all happened Monday night.
