Hi everyone,
It's always something as the saying goes.
Does anyone have a stomach that gurgles so loud you can hear it half a block away and also bouts of diarrhea?
I'm 53 and right in the midst of peri.
I've always had IBS but usually the constipation variety but since starting peri I've gone the other way...diarrhea.
I recently had an abdominal ultrasound and nothing remarkable was noted.
Anyone else with "gut" issues?
Chantal

I have had bad stomach issues since meno. It keeps changing. One day it might be one food that bothers me. The next day I'm fine with it and another food to take its place. I've changed my diet (no caffiene). All common offenders elliminted. On a gad day I can have a problem with water. This is not fun.

I can relate to this. IBS and tummy sensativity is a huge part of my perimenopause. I have had tests run and an endoscopy done only to find nothing wrong. I completely blame it on changing hormones. I really have to watch my diet about a weeked before my period. I have real bad pms and upset digestive systems. I am so aggravated with all this. I do believe it is common though.

Hi Chantal,
I have had this also and I found I was lactose intolerant (which I never was before). I had gurgling - very loud, and diarrhea. It was happening everyday shortly after lunch - and other times at night. It sounded like the type of stomach growling that you get when your hungry - but I had just eaten. At the time, one of the changes I made to my diet was to eat breakfast (which I never did before). I was eathing cereal with milk.
I am also not a milk drinker - this was the only milk I was taking in. After a while I thought this might be the cause - and I believe the night time growles was due to having ice cream after dinner.
I stopped the cereal and ice cream and have been fine ever since. I was also getting diarrhea when I was eating the dairy, and now it's mostly gone (except for the occasional bout).
I did hear that many adults become lactose intolerant - both women and men - so it may be more of an age issue - rather than menopause - or possible both. Mine started when I was about 47 - and I'm almost 51 now.
I did find that I can eat cheddar cheese and yogurt - there's something about the way they are processed that makes them OK - so I am still getting some calcium.

Stomach problems have been the bane of my life over the last 7 years. I have noises going on in there that could wake the dead! Ridiculous as it sounds, the only thing that shuts it up is peanuts, handfuls of them if necessary. Not great for the weight but great to stop the loud noises that occur throughout the day when working in an extremely quiet office.
For the last two years I have been experiencing Hot Flashes and then in the latter part of last year was dianosed with Hypothyroidism. The meds for this imediately stopped the Hot Flashes, but a really bad Period early March brought them all back worst that ever. Now I am getting those every 30 mins, day and night!
