why take blood pressure on left arm not right arm

Hi,
My GP always take my B/P with my left arm. I saw recently on a video for operating a BP monitor using both arms to begin with and which ever arm gives a higher reading, then that's the one to continue taking readings on. I don't know how accurate the information is.
