Hey Old Flo,

I know you went to infertility seminar last week and have been waiting for a post from you. Did you find anything interesting for us 40+ year olds?? I am saying prayers for us and hoping that our time is coming soon.....any news on Dr. Grifo?? What a loser I am posting at 11:30 on a Fri. night. DH is sound asleep on couch- he has to work at 6:30 tomorrow. Friend of a friend had a tip that Bruce Springsteen (my all time fav) was going to do a surprise performance at the stone pony tonight. I was too tired.....and depressed.........I feel so old right now. Can't even get my sorry a-- out to a concert 30 minutes up the road. Turn me over- I am baked. Big loser!!!!!!!!!!!

Tmerone and all !!!!

none of us are Losers !
( speaking of the L word has to drag my old carcass into bed at 10 :30 pm last night cause I was whipped ) .

here is what I learned about us old folk - the 38 + crowd at the infertility conference .

the medical DR's that spoke + gave lectures on ART, IUI, FSH all had alot of sobering statistics about the difficulties of conceiving and carring to term a healthy baby by any means . The odds / data got worse as you hit 40 . they explained the diference between chronological age + biological age of you ovaries + ovarian reserve using FSH as a marker . said it would be difficult to concieve but not impossible . Using doner eggs would give an older person a higher success rate .
there was this great 41 year old woman that raised her hand + told DR that she had high FSH and her RE told her it would never happen for her + she conceived on her own + gave birth to a healty girl .

The alternative medical community was also there .They seem to be more open minded + optimistic .
mostly accupuncturists specialing in infertility and homeopaths + holistic practitioners. They were not talking statistics + showing slides + graphs .

So . Yesterday I had my first treatment with a new infertility accupuncturist . Still trying to contact Dr Grifos group . My Current RE is willing to keep working with me + while I go thru accupuncture .

I will write more later . I am trying to be a BIG GIRL today and go to my best friends little sisters baby shower .May god and the board give me strength today . Later ladies and gents . happy Saturday

I wish I had gone to the seminar!!! Sounds like you found it very informative. I am going to the library today to get even more books on infertility. I have taken them out twice already but the more I read the more I understand. Yeah, I was having a pity party last night. I guess I failed to mention that as I was feeling like a loser I was also sitting there with nair on my hairy lip!! left it on too long now my skin is all red!!

Did you get a treatment done at the acupuncturist or just speak with him?? I am afraid of those needles so I am sticking with reflexology.

This new accupuncturist was GREAT .
I actually had a treatment that day .
She told me to bring all my records from the RE.
She read through them and came up with things that the RE never came up with . Said he was more concerned with DH's motility that RE was and might want to treat DH as well . As far as the needles go its a piece of cake . If you have been on injectables it is much less painful and frightening than having your DH or youself stick you on a nightly basis . You are lying on a comfortable bed in a quiet room . Some of the needles you do not feel at all - some felt like a warm sensation . You lie there for about 1/2 hour . I almost fell asleep , in fact it was the most peaceful part of my day . The down side is she perscribes these HORRIBLE tasting herbs . She said the liquid herbs are much more effective than the pill form .Its a cup of "tea" 2x a day . Both DH and I will be on herbs but different formulas . DH wont need accupuncture just the herbs . We wont be getting our herbs till Monday or Tuesday . She was recommended by a friend and as it turns out is one of my insurace co's recommended Accupuncturists under our alternative medicine policy - they do not pay for it but we get a discounted rate . I feel better that we are doing this . If the worst case senerio happens and we cannot get pregnant I want to look back and say I did everything I could + feel at peace with it . We are still going to continue with 1 more cycle of conventional medicine - just dont know it it will be May's cycle or June's or with current RE or new RE - Hey with any luck maybe we wont need it at all !
Are you really doing the reflexology ? The reflexologist I met at the infertility seminar was very interesting and it looks like it feels great !
Happy Sunday

old flo- is the acupunturist in NYC. I went to a great one on 57th street who was recommend by the fertility doctors at a big hospital in the city and I can't think of the name. Saint B.. somthing. Anyway I loved her and stopped because I moved away. I was thinking of finding one down here. Anything to improve my chances.

Tmerone- I have one word for you girlfriend--WAX.(LOL) Forget that Nair stuff. One ouch and its over. I get waxed once a month--everywhere. It is the only way to go.
