I was recently diagnosed with Adult-ADD about a month ago. I'm a 29 year old male. My Dr. suggested a few things and recommended Adderall first. I've been taking 10mg a day for 3 days now. I know this isn't a long period of time, but I'm starting to really question if I should be taking this.

The first morning I took Adderall I felt a bit tipsy, but was surprisingly alert for that day. The next day I felt the same, but had a rather annoying headache all day long. That night I had some major insomnia and a near panic-attack. I was able to get my heart rate down and get about 6 hours of sleep. Today, the third day, I feel like absolute crap and I'm concerned it's the Adderall. I feel a lot more anxious than ever and a bit loopy. In general I just feel very very off.

I'm curious as to what point I stop taking this drug. Is 3 days just too short? Do I need to just suck it up and give it the prescribed 2 weeks?

I've always reacted very strongly to any form of medication.

And a few more questions:
1) Is it safe to exercise when first taking Adderall? My girlfriend and I just hired a trainer and have been doing some serious conditioning for about 4 weeks now. I've actually had a stress test and a few EKGs per an anxiety issue a while back ;) and my heart is in tip-top shape.
2) Can grapefruit or oranges/juice cause adverse effects with Adderall?
3)

Obviously I need to discuss this with my Dr., but I truly appreciate the opinions here.

Thanks again for your thoughts!

I had an awful reaction to Adderall and stopped after 4 days. Aside from what you explained, I was paranoid, couldn't talk to anyone, didnt sleep or eat. I did the right thing by stopping. Dr agreed with me but said I should have called him so he could agree to stop and put my mind to rest. I got run down with upper respiratory problems and fever even after I stopped. So, talk to your doc. I have just completed 4 days on Concerta and feel wonderful. Not every med is for everyone. From what I understand, these two work at different ends of a chain of adjustments. Good Luck. Talk to your DR.

Thanks much for the reply. I've had a few minor palpitations, but am trying to stick this out a bit longer. I'll be contacting my Dr. today.

Good news I had a great sleep last night and felt very rested this morning. I'm thinking my body is just adjusting to the drug. I have had some very minor minor chest aches, but I think their related to indigestion :D.
