Freedom at last! I got my scooter 2 weeks ago today. We spent a few days deciding on the best transport method. I opted for a carrier platform with a built in ramp that hitches to the hitch on my SUV. I purposely ordered a heavy duty hitch anticipating this someday. Once the platform was hitched to the vehicle (took about 5 mins) the actual loading of the scooter took about 90 seconds to roll it up and strap it down. I was able to do this myself which was a great feeling. I cannot hook the carrier to the car, it weighs 84 lbs and I couldn't budge it! But I believe I can take limited trips and load/unload the scooter by myself in nice weather. I must hang on to something the whole time and park where the platform wont stick out 3 feet into an aisle.
My wife and I christened the scooter at a resort in upstate Michigan. I rode all over the resort, inside and out, enjoyed the fall weather and colors and maneuvered it through a restaurant with no problem. It felt so good to do all that again plus not be exhausted at the end of the day. I told my wife let's take my little nieces to the Zoo on Sunday and go to a movie next week. All stuff I haven't done in 5 years.
I promised a lot of you I'd let you know when I finally got some wheels. I'm glad you all talked me into it. The freedom is priceless!

Snickers, I got a Pride Victory 10 ALSO! I love mine too! I got the viper blue, but I also liked the red. I'm really happy with it. I DID get a carrier. I ordered a platform style carrier that goes into my class 3 receiver hitch. I ordered it online. If you search for "Discountramps SC500 Carrier" you should be able to find it. The S&H were free and I got it in 3 days. Assembly consisted of 6 bolts and a few spring loaded pins. The con is it weighs 84 lbs! I need someone to slide it into the hitch for me. The pros are the attached folding ramp is nice and long and not too heavy. The scooter rolled right up without scraping and tied down with 2 tie down cargo straps. It takes about 90 seconds to load it. The carrier is 48-1/4" x 28" with 4" sides. It can hold 500 lbs but the Victory 10 weighs in at 175 lbs. It rides beautifully. It also folds up vertical when you're not carrying the scooter. The place has all kinds of products if this model doesn't meet your needs.

Oh my goodness, you sound as excited as I am. I'm sooooooo glad you got a hitch you like. Will look into it. I just shipped one back that did not work like they said, even well hubby could make it work only after 30 minutes of working with it. I'm losing a whopping $120.00 with shipping it back and restock fees. It was free shipping here, but then you're on your on. Was not happy with this company.
Think I might have to eyeball one before I order again.
Thanks soooooooooo much for your input.
I go the CANDY APPLE RED ONE.........and we call it "THE APPLE". I almost got the blue, but always get blue, so decided to go RED.
It's a great scooter no doubt.
Got a cover for it yesterday and got a FREE BUNDLE package with it. Basket on front, Basket on back, cup holder, flag, armside bag for STUFF. Did you get all that ? They're into making them comfy now. I had tried one out in person before ordering one.
I'm soooooooooooo happy for you...........you sound like me.......NOW I AM FREE TO FLY (LIVE) again with more staying power and time.
BLESSINGS and JOY, SNICKERS60 I'LL LOOK INTO YOU LIFT SUGGESTION.

Forgot to ask: You said it was SPRING LOADED...does that mean it lifts easily after you've loaded the scooter. That is heavy.....guess hubby could do that.....need for it to be lighter really, but it looks great.
Thanks for your help in advance, SNICKERS60

:angel:Congratulations, Mark!!!
You sound so happy and free! I know how you feel. I had my wheels for a year before I got to use it good. I still don't have a lift for my van, so I use our van transportation service. I have to pay for it, but it is definitely worth it. I don't have to worry about anyone pushing me where I don't want to go, lol!!!!I sometimes I just don't have the energy to get in and out of my manual chair, so life can be enjoyable again!!!!!

Hey Snickers60,
I'm afraid it is not spring loaded. The spring pins just lock the ramp and carrier in the folded position. Since the carrier weighs about 80 lbs the person folding it up into the vertical position must lift about 40 lbs. I couldn't do it. But I was able to put the ramp up and down which weighs about 20 lbs. It takes a lot of effort and is my limit. My wife seems to have not much problem helping me. There are many choices to consider. Hopefully you'll fiond the solution that works best for you.

Rode my scooter 1.5 miles to the library today. It felt so good to go over by myself and not worry about falling and not being exhausted! Plus it was fun to just browse the library (1st time in 3 years) and enjoy the fall colors here in Mich.
I got my ride just in time! I hit a deer in my SUV, the one that's equipped with hand controls and my scooter carrier and smashed the whole front end (and the poor deer R.I.P.). I won't have my car for 3 weeks. But the scooter gets me around town nicely. I'd be absolutely trapped at home alone from 7-5. If ANYBODY is thinking of a scooter, definitely consider it and MD will help pay for it!
PS-My accident was not at all related to the MD. The police and my passengers said I handled as well or better than most people. Never lost control.
