over the last few days i have been having redness as well as a "hot" sensation in both ears as well as my face. It comes and goes but I mostly notice it once I am home after work, etc. I used to get the sensation with my ears on occasion but now it involves my face as well. Any ideas?

What medication are you on. I used to have that problem from Atenolol.

Flushing. It could be a medication side effect, from stress, or even from a change in temperatures (coming inside from outside).

I got that from hepatitis vaccine. How is your b/p during this time? Mine got very low & I felt like I was going to collapse. I think you should call your DR. Fam

I've had it happen when my pulse pressure gets too narrow - no idea what triggers that as it's usually when I'm calmly reading, just a weird measurement that one may want to be on the look out for.

In hindsight I realize now that the flushing (with burning) was a warning sign. With a PP of 10, I probably should have went to the ER. Oops. lol

If readings are weird, take it as a warning and go to the ER. If not, try to think of what is triggering it - write down everything you do, take, and eat. Foods can have side effects too.

What does PP of 10 mean? I have been taking my blood pressure several times throughout the day and keeping a log to take to my PCP this Friday. I have a tendency to worry and stress a lot. I am a paralegal so I am under stress at work as well. I even have stressing dreams. My dog got out of the fence, I am two hours late for work, my husband left me, etc. I wonder if I am suffering from some kind of anxiety disorder.

Pulse pressure = difference between systolic and diastolic numbers (top and bottom). If your pulse pressure falls under 18 I believe it means circulatory shock. It can happen if you have too much adrenaline released as this constricts the blood vessels more.
I'm not sure exactly how dangerous it can be, I suppose it depends on if the blood pressure is very high or very low at the time. Blood pressure cuffs aren't perfect either - so one can get a bad reading. Mine was saying 80/70 (a rather high diastolic for me), I had a lot of symptoms at that time so I believe the cuff was correct. It's happened a few other times when my PP's been 12, 14, and 15.

I have the same problem, and it almost always happens after work as well! It has already been mentioned that stress might trigger this condition, so that very well might be a factor.

In my case, it always happens when I've had a particularly difficult day, where I have been forced to multi-task the entire day.

This usually involves the expectation that I attend two meetings at once (attending virtually using a cell phone for one meeting, and an standard phone for the other meeting), and/or where I have multiple IM messages going on at the same time throughout the day, the phone is ringing off the hook, and there are several "urgent - Read this now!" emails coming into my email in-box.

At the same time there may be hundreds or other unread emails there as well. This is happening due to extreme cutbacks in my area, so the workload has become more than oppresive.

I went to the my PCP last week and got a diagnosis of HBP. I am now on Lisinopril to control same and have not had the problem with my ears and face since.

You obviously are under a lot of stress and that would increase your blood pressure periodically. I realize that I am under a lot of stress with work, my mother-in-law passed away this year and we had to move my father-in-law from Ohio to GA to live with us, my neighbor's have been unbelieveably rude to the point we have had to call the police, my car broke down, my son burned the clutch out on his new car and my cat of 12 years was recently diagnosed with diabetes. TOO MUCH!

Doc thinks that once things calm down I may be able to come off the HBP meds.

Breathe deep and try to take your daily tasks as "stress free" as possible.

Yikes! I hope that you have a better time of things in the months to come. I'm surprised that you have managed to avoid depression with all of that going on.

I am surprised as well. I have a great husband and family. With them in my life depression makes no sense. Just take it all in and do what you can. At the end of the day, love and laugh.
