Hello,

I am 18 years old, and healthy. I recently discover the benefits of Omega 3. For the past days I have been taking Nature's Bounty Fish Oil (1200mg). The suggested dose is 1 soft gel 3 times a day. That means that I am taking 3600mg of Fish Oil per day, 1,080mg being EPA and DHA (combined). However, recently I found out that Fish Oil is a blood thinner. Should I be worry? Call me paranoid, but I just feel scare because if I get cut or get my labs done, I might bleed for a long time (if that will happen).

Should I be worry? Will it thin my blood to the point that my blood will be unable to clot after a cut (etc)?

Thanks,
Nature Made

My doctor recommends taking 3 per day.

Blood platlets are what causes your blood to clot and omega 3 oil does not affect that-- but it does help your circulation -- improving memory & moods.
I suggest you read--the book on The Omega 3 Rx Diagnosis by Dr Barry Sears!! He is the man that started the Omega 3 fish oil -- and the benefits.

Caution. If you buy fish oil, read the label. Some of them have 25mg cholesterol, some only 5mg, some have None. So it depends on your cholesterol level, but I certainly don't want to take any supplements with cholesterol in it. I would rather eat it in my food.

Thanks for the info. My Fish Oil contains no cholesterol.

make sure you take a reputable brand--some fish oil is contaminated with mercury. i take fish oil, flaxseed oil and evening primrose oil. i get all of mine from puritans pride. i take these to prevent heart disease and the anti-inflammatory effect (arthritis).
