My DR. moved to a new office with all the frills. My body doesn't like the new b/p cuff etc. (the kind that is on a pole that can be rolled around>) It makes so much noise & takes so long. My b/p shot up to 210/90 the first time, then , and finally to 1237/74 the third time. I'm taking ear plugs next time!!! Fam

I hope the earplugs help! :) Maybe you won't feel so intimidated by this gadget on your next visit. I think if your blood pressure is good at home, then all is well. The doctors are used to some of their patients getting high readings during an office visit.
I wonder if a doctor should be reminded to take a blood pressure reading. Would you remind your doctor to do this if he forgets? If our doctors did this consistently during each visit and with each patient, then all hypertension could be detected in the early stages and treated before it gets out of control. Does your doctor talk to you while taking the measurement? If he does, do not talk back, nod or otherwise move. It can affect the reading. I too have had doctors take it initially, and again as I was leaving. They usually do this if they don't like what they see. Try to keep your mind busy during the measurement - go over the mental "list" of questions you want to ask. That might reduce your anxiety. Do your thyroid issues or medication affect your blood pressure?
