Hi, I was wondering if anyone here has experienced like a totally non-existant sex drive while taking Lupron injections. I have been on it for one week now. I'm not worried about it for the present, as I'm the ovum donor, and am refraining from sex until after the egg retrieval is complete because I don't want to risk becoming pregnant myself before the procedure is done, but I am worried about the after-effects of the Lupron. Has anyone experienced this, and if so, did your sex drive return shortly after stopping the Lupron injections? The doctor told me everything should return to normal afterwards, but I wanted to get some input from women that had actually taken it. Thanks. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I was on Lupron for three months for severe endometriosis......although they say that you loose your sex drive, I was one of the luckier ones who did not...I did however experience the hot flashes and mood swings...the worst was the hotflashes......but it all gets out of your system once you are off the medication.........

I don't know about after Lupron, but I can tell you that while on it there is no sex drive!! I have been on it for a year and a half. Can you imagine!! Then again, pain keeps the sex drive at bay as well.

Just a quick question about Lupron - is it given to help with fertility or to completely shut down your system?
My cousin is 19 and has severe endometriosis and is currently taking Lupron. She was told it would completely shut down her system but she is still have her AF.
What is an ovum donor? Just curious -
Any info would be great,
Amy

Lupron is usually given to suppress your hormones, most of the time it's used with endometriosis. It is also used with infertility to suppress prior to ovary stimulation (a lot with IVF to mature all the eggs together and eliminate a dominant one). I never used it with my shot/IUI cycles but I will with IVF. Incidentally, the clinic I go to here in KS charges $8000 for IVF without ICSI and $10000 with ICSI. They are supposed to be one of best in the nation because of their lab. I didn't think you were interested but I saw a post talking about costs and thought you'd like to know for comparison, in case you are just dying to visit the lovely state of Kansas!

I took LUPRON for 5 months. I was also one of the lucky ones and didn't experience a loss in my sex drive. In fact, It was the total opposite! I felt like someone else took over my body! My husband couldn't believe the change (I understood what it felt like to be told know--felt sorry for DH all those years, ha). I would even dream about BD during the day! It was terrible! In a good way, of coarse!
I did experience HOT FLASHES, blurred vision and dizzy spells (the dizziness actually ended my use of LUPRON).
All in all, I was happy with the way it made me feel, aside from the hot flashes/night sweats. The pain was gone and that could have been why sex was easier for me.
Good Luck! And God Bless you for being an Egg Donor! That takes a very special woman! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/heart.gif Jodie

Hi, thanks for everyone's reply. The doctors did say that the Lupron was to suppress ovulation until the right time comes. I guess I'm pretty lucky, a co-worker took Lupron as part of an IVF procedure, and was so sick from it, she missed alot of work. I have had the hot flashes, dizzyness, and blurred vision, but not to much of an extreme. I sure can't wait to start feeling sexual again though.....and I'm sure my boyfriend feels the same way, times 100! hehe http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif Thank you JODIE, I was actually turned onto being a donor from the co-worker I mentioned above. She had been trying to conceive for like 2 years, and she was nearing 40, so time was running out. She went for IVF, and is now 4 months along with twins! She is soooo happy, and I'm so happy for her. She's really excited about it being twins too. I'm going to the same place as she did. I don't really plan on ever having kids, although I know I may change my mind once I'm older (I'm 27). I feels really good knowing that I might be able to make someone as happy as my friend is (they don't tell the donor if the procedure was successful), and I'll be able to pay the rest of my college loan off to boot. I was sure suprised to hear that Lupron was also used for medical castration of rapists, and certain cancers....and I'm just learning now from this board that endometriosis is another use. It's amazing the different types of uses some medication has. Good luck to everyone!

I was on Lupron last year for 6 months. I had no sex drive while I was on it and I still have no sex drive. I have been off Lupron from about 8 months. It definitely helped with the pain, but I'm still not sure if it was worth all of the side affects
