Hi, I am new here. I am 47 and for the last few years have been going through what I think is perimenopause. Erratic periods. Extremely heavy and frequent for a long time and then light and starting to skip during the last year. At the beginning of the year I had the first time where I skipped it for more than one month. Then I got it again but lighter and fewer days. I have not had it now since July. That is when I started getting what I thought were hot flashes and night sweats. Just all of a sudden getting hot and feeling the the air is heavy and then breaking out in a sweat. Over and done and annoying but not a huge problem. Well, this morning all of a sudden I had the extreme wave of heat start at my feet and go up my body. I mean extreme. It felt like I had just taken my clothes out of an extremely hot dryer and put them on. It hung on for about 10 minutes and then went away. Scared me so bad. I never felt anything like that. What was that?

That could be the start of some very strong hot flashes starting. I had them very strong in the begining of menopause, sweated buckets, and thought i was losing my mind. This will ge better but it will take some time. It's been 2 years for me without a period and I still get those hot flashes but not so intense anymore. This is very normal, don't be scared. I have a fan next to my bed and it runs all night. Summer & winter. My husband is frozed to the bone and I'm just loving the breeze. Sometimes they come back to back or I just feel warm all day. Kind of like a 24 hr hot flash. No, menopause is no fun for sure. My mother at 84 still had them every now and then. Can you believe it!!! Keep cool and keep in mind that your fine. Misty

Misty, thank you for the answer. I was getting stressed over it. I didn't know if that was just a hot flash. I've never had one so intense. I didn't know they could be that intense! My poor daughter was with me and I think I froze her out with the air conditioner. I had it going full blast and it was a cool morning to begin with.

WOW! I am also new here. I am 42 years old and I have been having some symptoms here and there but never thought anything of it, too busy working not enough time to check myself and not taking my insulin and meds on a daily basis. Looking back now the signs were there. I just didn't pay them any attention, and just last week Monday I felt what you just described. I was at my desk at work and I felt all of a sudden a hot feeling in my chest and it went right to my head and everything went black. I got up to go over to the fan for air and I stumbled, luckily the custodian in my school was in my office sweeping wen ithappened. It has left me extremely scared, it surpassed and I stood home for a week, went back this Monday and in the afternoon I fekt as if another was coming on and my pressure went sky high. I believe these are panic attackis due to perimenopause. That was the worst feeling in the world but the worst part is, that it stays with you because it makes you scared. Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayers, that seems to be what I am doing LOT MORE OF LATELY.
