The cuticle is the tiny white edge of your fingernail, that connects the fingernail to the finger. When you have your nails groomed, you use an "orange stick" to gently push the cuticles back. Hope that helps.

Actually, true cuticle is the translucent layer of skin that grows tightly bound to the nail plate from under the proximal nail fold. The part of the nail unit we normally refer to as the "cuticle" is actually called the 'Eponychium'. This is the skin that stops where the nail plate begins and the skin from under which the nail plate grows forward. True cuticle is removed during a normal manicure procedure.
