My Dad is 79. He has had Prostate Cancer (with surgery and radiation), Stage 3 espohogeal cancer (with Chemo and radiation) and then has a very small malignant timor surgically removed 2 years ago the from his right upper lung that was the size of a pencil eraser. They wanted to remove the lobe so as to get lymph nodes protectively, but couldn't because of past radiation to the esophagus caused scar tissue making lung adhere tightly and removal of lobe would have caused extensive bleeding. The doctors have said that all 3 cancers were unrelated (thus not a matastsizing). He is an ex-smoker and quit 28 years ago.. Because of hx, he goes every 3 months for blood work (tumor markers) and that has been fine. Remarkably, he is also feeling pretty good and traveling etc... He goes yearly for CT scans. Just last week though, his most recent CT scan reveals a small linear presentation in his right lobe of lung. The past 2 years of CT scans never showed this. Oncologist wants to do a PET Scan and says there may be a chance that this could be "maturing scar tissue build up" at the site of the lung tumor removal surgery done 2.5 years ago or maybe not....
My questions are this...has anyone heard of this scenerio/explantation and is anyone familiar with lung tumor appears, does it always appear as a nodule or larger or can it present as a linear formation?
Many thanks for any information or comments.
