I'm about 100 pounds overweight. I gained all of my weight when I needed IV steroids 7 yrs ago for multiple sclerosis. That triggered something off in my body and I developed PCOS and insulin resistance. Now I have type 2 diabetes. I eat soooooo healthy and I do exercise. All of my thin friends are amazed when they compare their eating habits to mine and see that they're thin and I'm not. Anyway, I have a consultation with a surgeon next month for the lap band procedure. But, if I eat healthy already, will the band even make a difference considering I'm already doing what I should to lose weight?

Hello! I also suffered from PCOS type two diab. I had gastric bypass surgery May of 2007. I no longer have type two diab. and my PCOS is so undercontrol with BC that I have been classified as "normal" as far as fertility ect. I had the same concern when trying to make the choice between the lap band and the actual bypass. My doctor told me that yes it will still work because you can only eat VERY tiny amounts. This being said he told me the results wouldn't be as good if I didn't make sure that I took out the PCOS "trouble foods." Those being sugar, and carbs mainly simple carbs like potatoes and rice. He said if I really fallowed the diet and ate the amount of protien I was supposed to and ate it first I really wouldn't have room for the carbs, but if I did it would be very few because of the protein. But, for me I finally chose the gastric bypass because the amount of weight I needed to lose was 100lbs or more. A year and five months later I am below my goal weight and down 125lbs. So congrats on taking the first step you will not regret it!

i had the bypass done in 2001 i was 451 down to 158 now but this is not a quick fix you can still gain weight. The bypass is for life the lapband is not you have to do this for yourself and no one else it took me along time and along look in the mirror before i said im going to do it. I am married now to a very beautiful husband that i thought i would never ever have. Do tis for you no one else. If i can help you let me know
