Wondering if anyone here has used this with good results? I have perimenopause and I am having really bad mood swings. I cannot remember when the last time I felt really happy. I am sad and angry all the time lately and I cry at the drop of a hat. I have read where some women are having good luck with taking this. It seems to help with the mood swings. I started taking it to try and see if it helps. Can't hurt at this point. I have a doctor appt at the end of Nov. and if I am no better at that time I am going to talk to my doctor then to see if she can give me anything to help. I am tired of feeling this way all the time.

Hi Hobogirl,
Yes, I took black cohosh for about a year and it lessened the flashes so they were atleast bearable and improved my mood. After a while the black cohosh didn't seem to work as well. I asked the clerk at the health store if this was normal and he said "yes" and advised me to go off it for a month or two and then start taking it again. I then stopped the black cohosh and started taking Healthy Woman (soy) and that worked wonders but then read a warning about taking too much soy in pill form so stopped that too. I then decided to go cold turkey and got through it with no major problems. As time went on the side effects of menopause lessened. I started peri at the age of 50 and I'm now 58 and "almost" symptom free. If you don't count my expanding middle that is!!!! Have a great day ~ Mary Annie

A coworker of mine mentioned this tea to me today. I am really thinking of taking it. I am going through really bad anxiety and have all the symptoms of perimenopause. It starteed out with the hot flashes and now has went to bouts of crying and uncontrollable nervousness as to where I cannot even eat due to the uneasiness in my stomach. I have been doing a lot praying and trying to keep real busy. I hope you find relief soon, but you are not alone.

I did take Black Cohosh for about a year, and it did lessen the hot flashes for me. As for the mood swings, I can't honestly say if that helped or not, as I was moody before menopause! lol I'm now period-free, reaching the one year mark and my hot flashes have diminished somewhat. I would definitely try Black cohosh before trying HRT. I've also heard that Oil of Primrose helps with peri symptoms. It might be worth reading up on this. And Mary Annie....I'm glad I'm not the only one who's middle is expanding!

Good luck!

Jana :)

I just heard about the primrose tea today. My mom just got me some pills that are named Lydia Pinkham. They are all natural and are supposed to be very good for the hormone imbalance. I also heard of the black cohosh which the oilks contain as well. I am tired of feeling nervous, anxious and spacey and not being able to focus 100%. I have to kids 10 & 13 who are also freakin out as they see me changing and freaking out. My doctor gave me something to sleep, but I do not want to take any medicine that is going to become addictive or anything like that. I am learning how to ride out the anxiety and the nervousness, alot of it is mind over matter.

Isn't this fun, tee hee? Anyway, I also take Nac600, an amino acid, which is a terrific help for memory and that spacey feeling. I get it at GNC and don't know if it's available elsewhere. A friend told me to take it because that's what alot of college students take to help them retain info before exams. And it sure does help me. It is wonderful being period free. The wierd thing is that I still get PMS symtoms and feel crampy and moody around the time I would normally have gotten my period. I read somewhere that it's like mowing the grass - the lawnmower is working but there isn't anymore grass to cut!!!!!!! Anyone else still get period symptoms or is it just wacky me?

Black cohosh has helped me with hot flashes also. I have read you can take it up to 6 mths and then you should take a break and restart.

For those going through mood changes, I have read a low dose of an SSRI anti-depressant (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) like celexa, zoloft ect. can really help peri and menopausal women. There is science behind this, as estrogen keeps our serotonin levels normal, which is responsible for mood. So loss of estrogen can cause some of us to lose our mood and feelings of well being.

Good luck to all going through menopause hell.

I have had good luck with primrose oil capsules. They seem to ease the sudden heat wave that hits me at the worst times! I also take melatonin to help me sleep. Heck at this point, it sure cant hurt!! If I could just get a handle on my grumpiness, life would be great!
