Does anyone have any answer to chronic gastritis? I have been in agony for over a year now. I was diagnosed with that 10 months ago. It has been a very rough year. I live on Nexium, Carafate, Pepto-Bismol, Rolaids and anything else that I think will help. It does feel better when I eat and I have not lost any weight. I have had a colonoscopy recently and that was fine. Have had all kinds of blood work, which has been fine.
I am due to see my GI on Thursday and wondered what I should ask him about this Major Problem! I have read that Mastic Gum and Peppermint work. Does anyone have any experience with anything that makes them feel better? I think he will probably suggest that I have another endoscopy.

Gastritis as you know is inflammation of the stomach lining.
The best thing that I have ever used is Mastica -- 2 500mgm capsules take beween meals twice daily along with a probiotic supplement like PB-8 once daily.

Thanks, Harry, I will ask my GI about it tomorrow. Do you have this horrible empty, hungry feeling in your stomach? Once in while I have a day that is wonderful, but most of the time, I am suffering. I even wake in the night with it. I get only temporary relief with Pepto-Bismol, or peppermint Rolaids.

Narda,
The standard treatment for gastritis is a PPI like Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid -- for a month or so but I have taken them and they don't work for me to cure gastritis.
Your Doctor uses standard medications and probably will not prescribe OTC remedies like Mastica -- and may not even heard of it. And -- yes he will probably want to do an endoscopic exam.
Every time I use an antibiotic for a week I get gastritis and I have used Mastic Gum with good results several times. It usually takes 2 to 3 weeks to cure gastritis.

And where do you find Mastica? I am desperate for anything. All the medications that I have taken so far (over a year) don't seem to do a thing for me.

Wow, I thought I was the only one with the weird feeling of a pain in my stomac that feels as if I have not eaten in days. Sometimes it happens right after I have finished eating a meal. The pain is so bad and I don't know what to do to make it go away. All I am always doing is popping something in my mouth, Zantac, rolaids, tums besides taking Nexium 40mg. daily. 5 yrs. ago an endoscopyshowed Gastritis, but I have suffered with heartburn for over 40yrs. For me it is an hereditary condition, my dad always suffered from stomac problems all his life. What an awaful legacy to pass on.

Narda,
The first time I used Mastica(7/2001) it was prescribe by an Alternative practicing Medical Doctor that treats problems in Environment Medicine. And, I bought it at his office. His office also sells hard to get vitamins, minerals, supplement and some medication that needs refrigeration. But, it is all at retail prices but available. And when you need it-- cost is not a concern.
I saw Mastica 6 months later in a local Vitamin Shoppe while browsing. But, have bought it at a cheaper price online. Mastica come in 120 capsule bottle -- 500 mgm per capsule. Taking 4 daily -- 2 caps between meals is a 30day supply.
Mastic Gum is a resin from a tree in Greece and has been used by the Greeks for hundreds of years for all sorts of stomach problems including ulcers as well as gastritis.
I wish you well---Harry

I saw my GI yesterday, and I am due to have a CT scan of the stomach and an upper GI later on. I asked him about the mastica and, you were right, he never heard of it. But he did say, "Try it and if it works for you, fine." I have just ordered a bottle online. I have my fingers crossed. Do you only take it when your stomach acts up, or all the time?

Narda,
You take Mastica between meals basically on an empty stomach to cure you. Not when you have the symptoms that come and go.
The first time I took I was told to take the 30 day supply. But, after 2 week I had an edoscope of my stomach that had been scheduled by my Gastro Doctor 6 months eailier after the first exam that found gastritis.
The doctor could not find the 2 areas of gastritis that was seen and photoed on the first exam. I did not tell him I took Mastica.
Be sure to also take a probiotic supplement.
And I could tell it was getting better after a week.
