I got my blood test results back yesterday and my progesterone level was low (about a 9). I am supposed to start my period today and so far, no sign. I ALWAYS start first thing in the morning. I took a pregnancy test mid afternoon and it was negative. So, here are my questions:

1: can you even get pregnant with low progesterone?
2: because it is low, could my hormones not be strong enough yet to show up on a HPT?
3: if, by some miracle, I am pregnant would I have to start taking progesterone supplements ASAP?

I am kind of freaking out because I am scheduled to leave to go out of town - for a week - in just a couple of hours.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Lily,

Wow! I'm not sure what to tell you. I do think though, that until you see AF, assume nothing http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif I wish I knew more about progesterone levels, but since I don't, all I can do is tell you I'll be thinking about you. Don't assume you can't get pg with progesterone levels that low, or that you're not pg because of a neg test. If your hormone levels are that low, then you would get a neg pg test if you were pg, so keep that in mind. I'll be thinking happy pudgy baby thoughts for ya. Enjoy your trip.

Lily,

Yes you can get pg with low progesterone levels (I have extremely low levels and have conceived 3 times).

I don't think that low progesterone would be the reason that you get a negative, but some women do not produce a lot of HCG right away and do not get a + up until something like 2 wks after AF is due.

Also, if your progesterone levels are low and you are pg you need to go on supplements ASAP as progesterone is what helps securely attach the fetus to the uterus (from what I understand).

I would call the doc and ask for a pg blood test.

Hope this helps and hope you get your BFP!

Hi Lily!
Yes, you can be pregnant with low progesterone - I read about it all of the time!

I would request a beta - just for peace of mind. If you really are pregnant you need to be on something...
Good Luck!!!

Lily,

yes, you can get preg. with low progesterone...(I did twice), but toa void m/c you need to take prog. supplements. I don't think that low progesterone can give you a BFN...the HPT tests for HCG. Even though I had very low HCG levels on my last pregnancy, I got a BFP 14 days after ovulation. Maybe you should request a beta test and talk about progesterone supp. with your RE.

Good luck!

Minouche
