I usually wear overlays on my big toes because I have thin weak nails and they break and peel easy. I took my overlays off the other day to redo them and my nail was soft and peeling. It peeled over half way back with no pain. It is leaky a clear subtance from dead center of the nail. Being halfway down and in the middle. the nail is very soft all the way back and tender. I have no idea what is going on. Does anyone have an ideas? I am also a runner and run 1/2 marathons two times a year and train all year.

You need to remove the overlays because the toenails are naturally much 'wetter' than fingernails and this moisture will build up in the nail plate causing it to breakdown. Every time the technician performs maintenance, she has to file the natural nail plate surface and with each filing, she thins out the layers even more. Running puts extra strain on the toenails as well.
