Hello all!
My wife and I have been having a problem conceiving. She is 29 and about to enter menopause. however, she had a healthy egg produced this month using fertility drugs, and we recently did artificial insemination. They injected my sperm and we are thrilled to death to find out a few days ago that she is indeed pregnant! That means she conceived on May 7th.

So here's my question: She spotted a little on the 12th. No big deal(egg attaching to the utereus we presume). But just yesterday she spotted again. Is this normal? Someone we know said it could be ectopic pregnancy (where the tubes are blocked and the egg attaches to the tube rather than the utereus). this freaked us out and by looking in the internet, I suppose it could be. But she has no other symtoms like abdominal pain. We called the doctor and he is going to see her Tuesday. But as I sit here on Sat. morning, I just wanted to ask you all on this great site whether or not you thought the spotting is a sign of problems, or could it very well be normal. she said the spotting was "mostly brown." which I took to mean old blood. I know we will find out the answer Tuesday, but that seems like a year away as this may very well be the last chance we have to conceive other than egg donation.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreicated!

As long as it's brown, not red, I wouldn't get too worried about it.

Pamper her until Tuesday when she can see the doctor. Keep her off her feet as much as you can. No intercourse, just to be on the safe side.

Congratulations on the pregnancy. How wonderful!

Welcome to the board guys!!!
I'm pregnant with twins (13 weeks) and have spotted several times during this first trimester. The doctors have said that at long as it is brown and not full of large clots for me not to worry. During these times they want me off my feet and resting.

Spotting is very common during the first trimester. Soome women have heavy enough spotting that they think it's a period, yet the pregnancies survive.

Congratulations and good luck to you both.

Hello

I am too pregnant with twins, 10 weeks and I had some pretty heavy bleeding at 7 weeks that sent me to the ER. It was heavy enough that it looked like a period and the blood was red not brown, my cervix was closed and the babies are fine and I have had no sign of bleeding since then, my OB says its very common to have unexplained bleeding in the first trimester and they may schedule an U/S early to get a good look at things. Best of Luck.

Congratulations. I had some brown spotting when I was pregnant with dd and it turned out to be fine. If it changes color or gets worse, call the doctor back. Lots of luck to you both.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I concieved on March 15th, and I have had brown spotting since week four. I am at week 12 now, and have not stopped spotting. I even had one episode of bright red spotting that send me to the ER. I have had three ultrasounds, and all show a very healthy little baby http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif Try not to worry, like the others said, as long as it is brown. If she does have some red spotting, you should go to the ER. But, there are two of us on the board that had red spotting, and we still have healthy pregnancies. My doctor did stress though - no vacuuming, not even picking up the laundry basket (seriously). Just pamper her until Tuesday, and make sure to check back with us to let us know how she is doing. Congrats again http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif
