Im going to ask my Neuro if I can try lacosamide, if there's anybody out there who has any success with an improvement on partial seizures after taking lacosamide please let me know. thanks

Well, I was invited to participate in a study for Vimpat (lacosamide) as it is not readily available in the U.S. as yet and I guess they want to use us as gunea pigs first. Although, my epileptologist told me that if my current "brain candy" (Keppra and Zonisamide) didn't start working the way it should, he would put me on Vimpat.
Anyway, from what I've read, Vimpat looks promising...as in the side-effects aren't as hideous as, say, Keppra or Topamax or as delibitating as Lamictal or Carbatrol can be for some. Hey, I've been on 7 AEDs in the three years since my diagnosis and am a firm believer they all suck out loud. So I hold out hope that lacosamide is a winner for many!
There's even talk that it can be used as a mono-therapy med!

I take it back considering i have been medically refractory for the last 7 years this one is starting to look a bit more responsive. If it isn't a total fix it is making positive changes that none of the other drugs made I'm going to wait for a little longer before i spit my dummy out and cry myself to sleep again!!!.

Vimpat is so new in the US some locations have had trouble getting it back in June when it was released.
I don't know if we (the patients) know that much about it yet. I always like to KNOW about the medication before deciding if I want to be on it.
I'm always apprehensive on "new" freshly approved medications. Even if they had been out for a few years. When they put me on Keppra I was a little leery, but it went well. Zonegran didn't go well for me. Lyrica is going well (one month so far!).
I just don't jump on a new medication or therapy just because it's the latest thing. I would try what is already available and whats "trusted" before trying the newest thing.... that's just me.

There were cases of Swine flu in my region. Didn't cause me to worry. In fact it caused me to pull out an old recording (from the early 90's) of a band that did a track CALLED Swine Flew. (I scream sundae). Funny how we all react differently.
Sure the research helps. I'm not saying to stay with the 1912 Phenobarbital; or 1954 primidone. However use the medication that WORKS with you, and stay current with the developments. Information is power.

I don't care if vimpat is new & we don't yet know all about how it effects us....would having sz's be better? I thought, if it causes whatever, I can stop taking it. It did give me double vision for a few hours after taking it. But I now take some of my morning does in the morning & the rest of my morning dose later.

does it make any of you sleepy? my first dose was tonight. I cant stand the thought of taking smthg twice a day!!! is once at night not enough?

I'm sorry I got off the topic of lacosamide -- lacosamide works good for me....but we are all different.
