I have only seen a couple threads regarding diastolic pressure. Seems many dont have a probably with the bottom, just the top.
My diastolic likes to hoover in the 80's which is too high. When I stress it jumps up to the 90's and the other day my pressure was 124/102, then later it went down to 120/96. I am on Azor 5/40 and HCTZ. How can I control that stubborn bottom number? Do I need another medication possibly?
Also the pressure in my left arm is about 10 - 20 points higher often, another mystery.

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your diastolic remaining high. Mine was 96 when put on medication last November. It is now 76. I can't really say what got it down, except to say I walk one hour a day and have tried to incorporate healthier food in my diet. As crazy as it sounds I think having a positive mental attitude also helped me. More experienced posters might be able to help you more.
Marantz.

Flutterbye,
I have malignant hypertension, and have been under the close eyes of several doctors for years. Managing my BP has been a huge challenge, and my diastolic readings were a big part of it.
When the diastolic is too high, it means there is no relaxing of the bloodways, and it leads to hard arteries and hardening of the heart over time. When the BP is not in control, there is a potential for damage to the retina's, and the kidneys too. (Been there, done that..)
I would report this to your doctor, while monitoring it at home. Keep a log of your BP's, to show him/her your concerns. Sometimes it does take a combination of medications to cover both bases, but it's worth it!
You are smart to keep after your BP, and I wish you well.

I'm not sure what AZOR is but I take labetalol really takes the diastolic down right away but it took a awhile but adding HCTZ for my systolic to go down. Labetalol is a alpha/beta blocker. Fam

I think Azor is Benicar and norvac (amlodipine and olmesartan) or something like that.
it concerns me because I can feel it. I feel anxiety when it goes up and there is no reason I can think of. it's been in the upper 90's all night, the lowest it goes it mid 80's at times. Also my left arm is much higher than the right, maybe thats normal. i always thought there were supposed to be close to the same.
