Hi all,
I hope this post isn't too gross... lol--it seems like I have no shame in talking about this kind of stuff since I've become a mother.
Anyway, I have an (almost) 18mo ds, and just about anytime he eats veggies (which is rare), that aren't pureed, I find them pretty much whole, in his dirty diapers. I managed to get him to eat literally, probably 5 pieces of veggies with last nights dinner, and this morning, dh found what appeared to be corn in his poopy diaper. Then he had another poop tonight, and I found a whole piece of carrot!
Is there any reason they seem to be going straight through him? Does this happen to anybody else's baby? I just find myself thinking, why am I forcing him to eat what he doesn't like, if he might not be getting the nutrients from it anyway?
Thanks!

LOL! Well corn is obvious! No one can digest corn very well. Grace likes to eat these dried fruit bites made by Gerber, and she doesn't digest those. It surprised me too. I am sure they are still getting at least some of the nutrients. It probably looks like more in the diaper than there actually is. That is just my hunch.

Oh yes, my son is the same way, and especially with mandrin oranges. He loves them, but they seem to go right thru him. I wouldn't really worry about it too much, as long as he's getting something in him, I'm sure it will be fine.

It takes time for their bodies to learn to digest these things, and as they chew better it'll be better digested. We've seen a HUGE reduction in undigested bits since starting our son on digestive enzymes which help kids digest things better, especially when they aren't chewing real well. The body can't properly digest corn anyway, so that one is obvious. The rest will get better with repeated exposure and as he learns to chew better.

Thanks for the replies!
I'll try cutting up his veggies smaller (hopefully he won't eat less than he already does, if it has to be in more bites!), and see if that makes any difference. If anything, at least he's getting used to the idea that he NEEDS to eat vegtables, and hopefully he'll grow to like them, even if he's not completely digesting them!
