My girlfriend called me one night crying, telling me she was sure she had herpes. She went and got tested, but the results haven't returned yet. I personally have never gotten tested since I have only been with one person before. But I have never broken out. Do I have herpes as well? Am I a carrier, or is this from one of her past relations? Should I go and get tested as well?

Get tested now so you know your status. Ask your doctor for a 'type specific HSV1 AND HSV2 IgG (NOT IGM!) blood test". If you have had the virus for approximately 3-4 months, it should show up in the blood test.

In all of the years that I have known about Herpes, I really have never known many carriers or people with no symptoms. Just people who have had such mild cases that they weren't aware that they had Herpes in the first place. In other words 9 times out of 10,the first outbreak is usually not a dormant one that you contracted years ago but normally a first time one from the current partner and it usually appears within 2 weeks of contact. Just my opinion

I do know of a few people that have never had a ob and have never had symptoms. They had a std panel and a blood test for herpes. That test came back positive.
