hello: I had been tested for HPV and it was positive--Will i ever be the same again--will HPV be in my system forever.

Your body will always maintain a record of having been exposed to HPV. Many (most?) people are able to fight HPV so it doesn't cause further damage. There are some people whose body is not able to do that. It is possible that the virus could cause damage years or decades later.
HPV is the most widely spread STD. Something like 80% of women over 50 have been exposed to HPV at some point in their lives. Very few of those women have further problems with the virus.
BUT, you need to be sure you stay current with your pap/well-woman exams . . . for life. Don't skip years. Pap tests detect some, but not all cervical changes.
