Hello, sounds like you will be fine. I have high risk HPV and had the pre-cancerous cells removed 6 days ago. Most women that have the low risk it will disappear if you are healthy, try some immene sytem supplements and the eating healthy really helps. Now the question of your partner giveing it back to you is likely and I know I am just as scared, but if you are both healthy and continue to be with just eachother the chances are low. I have done lots of research online..there is alot to learn from others that can be very helpful. Your doctor saying that it can go away is very good. My chance is slim to none..but I am fighting with all my being to rid it..because it's a virus and it can be cured! And the cureing of it is up to us.

Once you have been exposed to the strains of HPV that your partner has, then you have them. They can't be passed back and forth. Once you have them, you have them. It is possible for your body to fight the virus so that there is no active virus, but it is possible that later in life the virus could become reactivated and you have problems with it.

Condoms do not fully protect you and like Pickle Eyes said you will both have the same strain/s and cannot reinfect eachother. If you've been in a long-term monogamous relationship then you can continue to have sex without a condom. In my opinion your doctor has given you some bad information.
It is important to keep you immune system strong; healthy diet, excercise, low stress levels, etc. But again like Pickle Eyes said you can have symptoms and although they go it does not mean you will not have future outbreaks or symptoms. Nobody can give you that answer.
There is some good information at the Center for Disease control about HPV. Have a look and take care.
