Hi everyone. I have read that mag. taurate helps many conditions including anxiety and depression.

I have tried it several times and even in the smallest dose I get heart fluttering (like you do with anxiety).

I have calcium in me at the time so that couldn't be the problem.

Has anyone experienced this or can you tell me your experiences with it?

Thank you.

magnesium glycinate is the easiest to absorb, but for depression--i take DLPA, tyrosine, rhodiola, samE and st johns wort--they work better than the ssri's i threw in the trash! for anxiety--the best thing is kava, also, valerian, gaba, passion flower, l-taurine, l-theanine, chamomile and melatonin for insomnia. the 3 best adaptogens--that help us cope with stress--are ginseng (i use the korean/asian panax), ashwagandha, and rhodiola. a complete free-form amino blend is best. our neurotransmitters are made from aminos--these are dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine etc... a really great book that i just bought about amino acids is "the healing nutrients within" by dr. eric braverman. it goes into detail about depression. you have to take a b-complex and multi-vit/min for the aminos to work right. it is also calming to take your magnesium and calcium at bedtime. hope this helps!

Thank you kellibear for writing all that. I appreciate it.

How long have you been taking the things for depression? You have clinical depression and they have worked for you?

Would it be possible for you to tell me dosages for the ones you take for depression?

My SSRI has given out on me and I'm really upset about it.

Thank you,
Salty

there is info now about how ssri's make you worse in the long run--they cause your body to stop making serotonin. the natural supps--make more serotonin, the ssri's just keep the serotonin from being broken down too quickly. i've been taking the supps. since march--it will take 2-4 weeks for you to see a real difference with the st. johns and samE, rhodiola, but the aminos work in just a few days. every morning i take st johns 300mg, rhodiola 300mg, DLPA 2000mg--3000mg, tyrosine 1000mg--2000mg, samE 800mg (2x/day). at bedtime, 5htp 300mg. also--to balance the 5htp, i take mucuna pruriens (l-dopa) 200mg--if you don't balance the 2 it can--it can cause either dopamine or serotonin to deplete. i also take a complete free-form amino blend--you need to balance the aminos, because just taking 1 or 2 can cause the others to get off-balanced. whey protein isolate shakes are a great way to get the aminos in without taking huge horse pills! if you do a search for neurotransmitters and amino acid therapy--there's alot of info out there. this is still a fairly new therapy, but so far it is working well, and the aminos don't have any of the ssri side effects!

Salty, Low Vitamin D causes depression. There are a lot a articles showing the link. Maybe when you get the Vitamin D level up, the depression will fade. My doctor has advised raising the level to 70ng/ml. I took sertraline (Zolft) and then Effexor but it did really strange things to me. I have now managed to wean off the Effexor XR and already feels a huge difference. Hoppy

Hoppy, how do you keep the levels up?

I'm so happy for you. I love hearing success stories. I hope you stay depression-free.

I would give anything to feel that.

I really appreciate you writing.

Hope to hear back re how to keep the vit. D where it should be.

Hugs,

I haven't actually got the Vitamin D levels up yet. My last test result was 24.9 ng/ml but I am still taking the 50,000IU twice a week and I will be retested in December. I was thinking of taking fish oil (Omega 3) to see if that would help to boost the Vitamin D levels. I also started exercising EVERY day for at least an hour and found that that alone REALLY helped with the improvement in the depression like symptoms. I wish I knew why my levels keep dropping. I have also just started taking a multi vitamin. I have Hypothyroidism (Hashimotos) that finally has stabilized and take Synthroid and Cytomel. Maybe that has helped with the mood swings as well.

I have read that low Vitamin D is found in a lot of cancer cases. I had a colonoscopy a few months ago and they found 5 polyps, one of which was precancerous, so I really want to keep my Vitamin D levels high if possible.
