It doesn't. Your body will always maintain a record of having had HPV. It is also possible for the virus to become reactive later in life.

I am dating someone and he says that he has a "skin tag" I'm not really sure if thats it or not.....i'm really nervous, to mean it doesnt look like that and i look skin tags up and the website said that you usually dont get them on your genital areas

HPV is a term for over 100 strains of a virus. More than 20 of those strains affect the genitals (cervix, vagina, vulva, anus, penis, mouth/throat). Of those 20 strains some are low risk (and case genital warts) and others are high risk (and can lead to cancer if undetected and untreated). Low risk doesn't cause warts, high risk doesn't cause warts. It is entirely possible (and very likely) for you to have several strains of HPV at one time.

It can take a little as a few weeks for genital warts to show up or as long as decades.

From what I've read, it is extremely rare for skin tags to occur on the genitals. They are comon on the neck, underarms and sometimes at the waist.

I hope that helps.

I had warts at one time and the large one was like a skin tag type of growth. Of course it was a wart but the appearance was similar to a skin tag. Just because he may have warts does not mean you will get them but you have been exposed to them and it could happen soon or in the future.

if you look up warts online, you will get a somewhat idea of the different varieties that can occur. has he been checked out??? why doesn't he just go get looked at by a doctor or planned parenthood?

I'm not really sure why he hasnt went and got checked out.....i think maybe because he has it stuck in his head that it one thing and he dont really was to face the fact and know the truth of what it really is.

most likely, its probably a wart. just encourage him to go get it checked out, he can get treatment for the wart.
