How do girls get HPV in the first place?
What I dont understand is;
do men have a gene or something in them that passes onto girls once they have sexual contact?
or is it only passed onto you IF the man HAS GOT hpv?
All they do is stick a needle in your arm and dont give you any more info!

It's not a gene, it's a virus that gets passed around very easily. Men give it to women, women to men, and so on and so on (unless they're gay, of course, then it goes man to man, woman to woman etc.).
And yes, one of the partners has to have the virus in order to pass it on. As for the vaccine, they're giving it to women because they seem to suffer the effects more than men do. Men just get warts, women can get warts and/or cervical cancer.

You might want to go to the website for the Center for Disease Control (here in the USA) and read what it says about HPV. It will help you understand the virus a bit more.
