Your doctor is suggesting a hysterectomy based solely on a diagnosis of high risk HPV. That seems extreme.
I assume your doctor diagnosed the high risk HPV when your wife had her pap test. The next step (after a possible wait and recheck period) is to do a colposcopy with biopsy and possibly an ECC (endocervical curettage). The doctor might do a LEEP or cold knife cone biopsy.
The HPV/dna test only tells the doctor that there is an active high risk HPV infection.
