My Girlfriend had a wart above her vagina, not inside the vagina we didnt know what it was. She went to see her gynocologist and it was infact a wart most likely a strain of some other HPV but the HPV that is known in that area.

Also the doctor said

This was from direct contact most likely from her self because she has plantar warts.

Now my question is
We have had unprotected sex 3 or 4 times if she has HPV On the upper part of the vagina not inside the vagina, does that make me likely to have HPV to.

And do I have to come in direct contact with a wart to get HPV.

Thank You

The area "above" the vagina is the cervix. The area above the vaginal opening is a different "place." The outer genitalia is called the vulva. It sounds like her genital wart is in the vulva.

The strains of HPV that affect the genitals are not the same strains that cause plantar warts (or warts on the hands, or face, or legs, etc).

Condoms only offer partial protection against HPV. You have both probably already swapped the strains of HPV you might have and the ones she might have.

no its not on the vulva its on the skin where there is pubic hair. Which makes me wonder if I could of gotten HPV if we had sex with out a condom if there is no HPV if I had not touched the wart during intercourse because there is no HPV in the vagina or vulva area or anywhere near the area of sex. The wart is above the vagina in the pubic hair region..

If there is no signs of HPV in the vagina (didnt show up on the papsmear) but signs of HPV on the pubic hair but I didnt touch it during intercourse could I still have gotten HPV. I am somewhat concerned.

400ex, the external genetalia on a woman is called the vulva. That is pretty much anything you see that pubic hair generally grows on, in toward the vaginal opening. The area you describe (in her hair) sounds like external genetalia, i.e. vulva.

I'm not exactly sure how you can have sexual intercourse without the vulva touching various "parts" that might have low risk (or even high risk for that matter) HPV. Condoms only give partial protection against HPV.

The cellular damaged caused by HPV (low risk or high risk) doesn't just occur on the external genetalia or just on the cervix, it can occur on the cervix, the vagina, the vulva, the anus, the penis, the mouth/throat.

There is no absoulte way to know there is no HPV in the vagina (or vulva, or cervix, etc). The pap smear only swabs the cervix. A colposcopy might give a better idea of atypical cell growth (in the above mentioned body parts) but a pap smear can't determine that. The pap is simply a screening device, it isn't diagnostic (that I know of).

I hope that helps.

If you are really concerned, go to the doctor.

As Pickle Eye said when having sex you come in contact with most of the genital areas and I can't imagine not coming in contact with that area. If you've been having having sex then you will have the same strain/s your partner does, condoms do not offer full protection from HPV. Plus there is no way of telling whether you were the infected one or she was, many men never show symptoms. I had warts but my husband has never had any.
