The only way to know for certain would be to ask the doctor. My mom died of Lung cancer 2 years ago after a 2.5 yr battle with NSCLC. She had liver mets and back in the beginning I asked her oncologist if we could look into Cyberknife for the mets. I had talked to a doctor at Stanford that does cyberknife and he told me they could do the liver mets. Well my mom's oncologist told me they can not use cyberknife on the liver I told them they could and that I had talked to the doctor at Stanford. Well he still argued with me about how they only use cyberknife on the brain. We argued for 20-30 minutes before he finally admitted to me that his speciality is chemo therapy and he really does not know much about the different radiation treatments.... humm why couldn't he have just mentioned that to me in the first place?

She never got the cyberknife as she had Kaiser as her insurance and they stalled around so long that by the time we got them to give us a copy of her latest CT to send to Stanford it was months later and she then had too many liver mets for them to do cyberknife.

My advice is don't assume the oncologist know everything if you read about something ask them and push for answers when necessary. Do not let them intimidate you as trust me they are not even close to being God. I should know as I have worked with them for 27 yrs. They are human just like you and I.:D JanMarie

I'm new. DX Jan 5 2009. non-small cell stage 4 lung cancer. Did over a dozen radiation treatments and tons of Chemo you know, but Just finished a set of 6 Cyber-knife Surgery treatments on my 2 brain tumors which are pressing on my optic nerve causeing huge sight problems. the sudden sight problem called for an immediate CT scan which is how the cancer was discovered in me.

No one has mentioned doing Cyber-Knife to my lungs but they scheduled me for a MRI in 5 weeks and consult in 6. Apparently the good cells that were "melted" need time a change to repair themselves ( and they do self repair always..only the cancer cells stay dead after Cyber knfe)

A phamphlet I have does say it can be done on lungs but I think there are specific limitations.

My DR tells me ZERO and his technical staff schedules all the stuff.. I guess I'm flowing along as they decide I should... right now is a period of rest from radiation I guess although I am doing once a week all day chemo still every week,
