I am alittle confused about HPV, I have been through some tests and I am unsure of everything going on. I had abnormal cells on a pap, I had a cervical biopsy done and it came back showing no cancer.

Then I had to have a D&C (done on Tuesday Nov. 4th) because I still show abnormal cells, they scraped the uterus and while they did that, they did a Leep on my cervix, and again I have to wait 4 to 6 weeks for the answers.

What are they not telling me, and how is that related to HPV.

Thanks

High risk HPV can lead to cancer (not just cervical) if the body doesn't fight the virus, if the atypical cells are left undetected and/or untreated.

I'm a little curious as to why your doctor did a LEEP if the cervical biopsy (which I assume happened when you had a colposcopy) came back without dysplasia. Did you actually receive copies of your pathology reports (from the pap and from the colpo+biopsy)? If not, I HIGHLY recommend you get those. They will give you a lot more information.

I also suggest you call your doctor's office after a week to 10 days to see if the pathology report (from the D&C and LEEP). I'd also call back and ask why the LEEP was performed.

How is all of that related to HPV? High risk HPV can cause cell changes in the genitals (cervix, vagina, vulva, anus, penis, mouth/throat). I *think* some of the cells in the upper 2/3 (glandular cells) are also in the uterus. My doctor did a D&C and uterine biopsy when she did my cold knife cone. I think she did that because I had already been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in situ (which are the cells in the upper 2/3 of the cervix).

I hope that helps.

Hi

I did call my doctors office just a few minutes ago to ask why a LEEP was performed, the nurse first told me I would have to wait for my appt. Dec 10 to find out, and I said no, you tell the doctor to call me and tell me why. The nurse did admit that it wasn't on the original report, and I told her that I had to initial the paper just before I was taken into the operating room. And I asked the doctor in recovery why it was done but don't remember (of course) what she said.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully I get some answers but they say it takes 5 - 6 weeks to get these reports back. What do I look for on the reports.

Thanks again
