I have been with one person for nearly 6 years, and about 2 years ago I developed a questionable skin tag on my private area. I had the growth removed and tested. My docter informed me that the growth that he removed did test positive for HPV. So, I guess I would like to know if I could have got this before I was with my current partner, or did he aquire this and give it to me after we got together?

Hi Jenny, HPV can lie dormant for months or years. I had a skin tag type of thing on my vulva area, it was genital warts. I had been married for over 16 years when I found out I had HPV----so I had got it over 16 years ago at that time. There is no way to know if you or your partner (unless one of you had never had any kind of sexual contact) was infected first but now you will both have the same strain/s of HPV. Just make sure you keep an eye on it and have your regular appointments and treatments as needed. I'm assuming they biopsied it, if so did they find anything else out from biopsy?
