I went to my first Rheumy visit. I've been waiting 3 months for my appointment and I was nervous. But, aha! He has an assistant that comes in first and listens to everything I want to say about my symptoms. Which by the way, I printed that symptom list that's at the top of our boards, filled it out and took it with me. They included it in my records. It was great! Cause she read it over, I didn't forget anything, and they were instantly apprised of my medical issues. Anyway, Doc came in and his assist. quickly went over ALL of my issues. Very nice. Then the doc did the 18? point pressure test and I have 11. At least on that day. Some days I bet I'd score a 25! :D
The doc and his assist left to let me get dressed. When they came back in the doc sat down and told me I have fibro (no surprise there). He talked some on what he would like to do. Gave me a script. for Cymbalta, ordered more blood tests in the areas where he wanted to validate from my previous tests and scheduled another appt.

I was elated to say the least! He genuinely recognized my disease! Now we can move forward with a plan. I've been very lucky that the two docs I've seen have turned out to be prizes. Oh, and he also said that later, we can look at some alternatives to the meds. Yahoo!

Thank you all for listening to me ramble. No one else understands how wonderful this is.

Oh...anyone taking Cymbalta? I'm worried about serious side effects and weight gain. Thankful for your imput.

Wish you all good news and sunny days.

I have been taking Cymbalta for a couple of years now, no side affects. I also take Lyrica....with weight gain. However, I am so happy with the results of the two meds together, that I would rather have the weight gain than the pain I had. Good luck and I am so happy you found a good doctor!

I've been taking Cymbalta for over a year now and haven't had one bad side effect from it. It is a good med and does help a little with some of the pain at night (I take mine at bedtime). I'm so glad you found a doctor that listens to you and is really interested in giving you the best care.

Good to know! Now, if my insurance won't stop me from getting it like they did on my script for Provigil. :(

Reading this made me both happy and excited. I'm so glad to hear a success story in getting a diagnosis! I know its too early to celebrate quite yet, I want to see how you're doing after you begin your scheduled treatment, but diagnosis is a gigantic step that many of us are denied time and time again.

On Cymbalta, I've heard the good and the bad. I don't really have any specific information that hasn't been discussed already, but I hope it works 110% for you.

Congratulations on finding some understanding within the medical community, and all the best to you in the future!

I'm so happy for you. You were assertive, had your notes and that really does impress doctors. I know it's a relief to have a name given to the pains, etc. that have plagued you. You are very fortunate to get 2 doctors that you like right away. It's nice to know that you are smiling, even though it's bitter/sweet.

As for the Cymbalta, I gained 40 lbs., made me more depressed and also suicidal. A few months of that was enough for me. I know several people that have taken it and they had the same side effects that I did. We are all different.
