Hi, I am wondering if anyone has tried the SaeboFlex? If so, have you had any improvements with it? I am considering it for my husband who suffered a stroke in March. He has been determined as eligible but I am curious if there is anyone out there who has used the brace and whether it has been effective. I wonder whether he might achieve the same result from occupational therapy without the brace. Any thoughts or comments? Thanks!

I have received and worked with the Saebo-flex but I haven't been using it long enough to see results. Unless your OT has lots of experience in working on hand recovery the Saebo seems to be one of the few appliances that does show hand recovery. The BioNess and BioMove are the others although i have no experience with either of them. If his fingers have tone/spasticity in them then constant stretching will be necessary to break up that pattern first before getting neuroplasticity to flex and extend the fingers. Even thogh my OT was excellent she did not have a good idea on how to recover hand function. In my research I determined that the Saebo was the way to go. I had to go to a different clinic to get doctors orders for it and also see a new OT who was trained in its use.

Thank you so very much for your thoughts. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer. If you wouldn't mind sharing, how many times a week will you be seeing your Saebo-trained OT? The OT who evaluated him informed us that we would not see results as quickly as the people on the Saebo website videos because those people are "training" with it three times a day. We have been informed that if he decides to go with the Saebo, he will need to see the OT about 3 times a week. Thanks again very much, Cindee

It took three visits to my OT to get it adjusted correctly and since then i am just doing the exercises at home. I should be doing it every day but so far i haven't succeeded. Once it is adjusted properly all the exercises can be done at home. Unless your husband needs the constant nagging from the OT, 3 times a week seems excessive.
