My daughter was diagnosed at birth with a unilateral hearing loss. After a series of tests and procedures, we learned she has Enlarged Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome (EVAS), which after a year still only affects one ear (though she evidently has EVAS in both). This gives us hope that perhaps she will maintain her hearing, but with as much research as I have conducted and as many professionals with whom I have spoken, I have heard of NO ONE who has reached adulthood without having lost some or all of their hearing. Is there ANYONE who knows of an adult or teenager who has maintained their hearing for longer than childhood? Is there any reason to think she may make it to adulthood with all of her hearing in tact in her one good ear?
