Hi there everyone,
well my story is, I hurt my back last year just before my wedding!
it seemed to get better or it was adrenalin, not sure, but it was grand for my wedding and my honeymoon.
but then after christas,it started up again,so i started physio and pilates, but just getting no better so doc sent me for MRI scan,
i had torn my disc and had a bulge.
Well long story short,i have been out of work since feb,i had been on pain killers and was doing ok, was out walking abit, then stopped taking them, and was out walking in the morning and afternoon - not like i normally used to walk but enough to get me out of the house, then had a set back!simple movement cause very bad pain and seemed to go backwards!back on painkillers!doing ok!
then around 4.5 weeks ago, things just got worse,i have pains all over,my knees,my shoulders are so tense,my knee just wants to crack, pains down my arms!
my doc test for fibrmyalga(don't know how to spell it)he said it wasn't this!
he has me on Zydol painkillers and now has put me on Lyrcia and im not seeing a huge difference!
what are peoples experience with this? i know the pains prob are to do with my back but they are going on so long now,im always in pain!
very down, just coming up to my 1st wedding anniversary and its been a bad year with my back, although my husband has been so supportive!
but i just feel im a burden, can't even walk now!and if i do anything,i end up paying for it with pain!
going onto illness benefit in december, was on half pay with work which we could barely survive on ,so i feel guilty about that!
Sorry for going on,maybe just looking for abit of advice on the Lyrica tablets
Regards

I am so sorry your are suffering with all this back and now body pain. I do hope you go to another doctor because this one isn't really trying to find out what is wrong with you. You are having some serious problems and you need to go to a Spine clinic or doctor that specializes disorders of the spine. Lyrica sometimes works but most of the time it does not. This is a fairly new idea that doctors are trying but normally there are other medications that are also prescribed along with lyrica and one of them should be a muscle relaxant and the other is a very strong pain killer like Oxycodone. I don't know how your doctor can test for Fibromyalgia..there isn't one...and from all that you describe you have some very serious issues with the spine that can be fixed with the right doctor. It takes minimum 8 weeks of bed rest and lots of pain killers and muscle relaxers for a bulging disc to shrink back to normal. Zydol I can tell you first hand is not strong enough to help with the pain and if he took you off it and put you on Lyrica(which is not a pain killer at all it is suppose to help with nerve pain but it rarely does anything at all)....and...it takes weeks to take effect. And if he didn't give you anything for pain then shame on him. There is plenty of pain medicines out there and if all you are on is Lyrica...well...Please find another doctor. A newly wed needs a better doctor than you are seeing. I don't know what choices you have over there in Ireland but surely there are spine clinics/specialists? I feel so bad for you because I know how bad you must feel!!! good luck to you.

Yes, you definately need to go to a different doc, preferably a specialist. Or if you have a pain clinic, (I go to one for my buldging discs), they can help with some wonderful therapy's and help control your pain. I take Lyrica, and for me it works for me, but if you're not certain you have fibro, my advise is not to take it. Get in to a different doc right away if you can!

Wishing you well.

Thank you so much for your replies, its so helpful to read other peoples views!

i should of mentioned that i have been going to a chiropractor as well since may.

He took blood tests and he said to me that he was checking for that and said it they came back clear, not sure what you do to test for fibromyalga.

yeh he has kept me on zydol as well as the lyrica.

i was with a different doc for a few months and felt she wasn't doing anything so i came to this new doc a month ago
it just feel that no one is giving me any answers!

but i will look into other options, have meeting with my doc on friday so will see what he says!
i actally nearly had a heart attack when i found ou the price of the Lyrcia, mad price!

thank you again for your advice
