I hope I don't get this locked but, I have a Marina (5 yr IUD) and I have severe pain when having relations with my spouse...any idea how to tell the diference if it's MS or from the IUD? I don't want to have it taken out if it wont resolve the problem as it was over $600 to have it put in. Please don't take offense to this.

Your best bet would be to consult with the doctor who handled the IUD. Let him know that you have MS and advise him as to the neurologist handling your MS. Between them, hopefully you can resolve this issue.

No offense here, this is a legitimate MS issue, one I am not unfamiliar with.

Definitely talk to the ob/gyn and make sure there is nothing wrong with the IUD, and that it's not causing anything else, like an infection. There also may be something else beyond that or MS that could cause pain during intercourse, so I'd make sure everything there is in good shape. It definitely could be the MS though--it can make nerves go crazy anywhere.

If it turns out to be MS only, there are some ways you can deal with it, like more time or lubrication. Also if it's MS, there's a chance it'll just go away on its own, or be helped by steroids (though steroids don't do too much for intimacy in the short term). Talk to your partner about it if you haven't already; it will require more patience and intimacy on their part. It is not the end of a healthy, satisfying sex life.

Thank you, I appreciate your input, I will call my Ob/Gyn and try to get in to see him. Thank you so much for the encouragement. Lubrication is not the problem the comfort is and the fact that if I can feel anything once intercourse begins its pain, otherwise I don't feel anything other than discomfort.
