Welcome, welcome, welcome! So glad you found this place. You'll be able to find out so much information and find compassion here. I haven't tried lyrica or cymbalta. I'm on a different therapy. BUT, a lot of people that post here have tried these medications, so I'm sure you will find some people who like the meds and some don't. It would be worth a try to see how you feel when taking them. At least your doctor listens to you!

No fibromyalgia is not necessarily progressive. My condition has improved greatly. The meds you have been prescribed are common for fibro sufferers but they don't work for everyone; I couldn't tolerate the cymbalta because of urinary retention and Lyrica didn't work for me. Magnesium and Malic Acid have helped me. I also take flexeril, tramadol, neurontin, percocet as needed.
Educate yourself on fibromyalgia. there is a lot of information here and I always recommend the book "fibromyalgia and chronic myofascial pain" by devin starlanyl. great book. saved my sanity. take it easy, stress can make the symptoms flare.

I've been taking Cymbalta for well over a year now and have had no problems with it all. I haven't tried Lyrica though so I can't comment on it.

Fibro does get worse, cymbalta and lyrica were like the totally wrong mix for me, I grew fat and suicidal. Take baby steps on your condition and you'll get under control of it, it won't have you. I've got 2 gfreat docotors for 17 years and am blessed by them. Hope you are just as fortunate in your quest for better health.

Beach,
If your fms keeps getting worse then you are not receiving proper treatment. There are many ways to treat this than to just sit back and accept it. It is NOT progressive. I will start a new thread and see what the people here think. Because I think you are wrong.

I am recieving proper treatment!!!!!!!!! As a matter of fact in the over 17 years that I've had this I've gotten medicines and care that are only now being accepted. I have wonderful doctors.
Please do not assume that you know me. Everyone that has this has different degrees of pain and areas effected. Some people are able to sleep, some people can't even with medication. Some people do not react the same way to medications, etc.. What is good for 1 person may not be good for the entire fibro family. I use medication and alternative procedures all of the time. I am accepting this gets worse, because it has. That doesn't mean that I don't seek additional care for the newest thing because I do. If you'd read more of my posts you would understand my views. You have your opinion and I have mine. I keep up on the latest research and medications and treatment down the road. As a matter of fact there has been $ given for researching that myofascial and deep tissue is a part of fibro...............I've been treated for this for years, so my doctors have been way ahead in their thinking. There is also new funding given for a few other promising studies also. One is the premature loss of gray matter which DOES affect us in several ways pain, cognitive, fatigue, physical function, etc.. Also promise of unraveling the genetic causes for fibro. I recieved word of this a few days ago.
My pain specialist is a pioneer in this sort of pain management and I have been a part of it. Really. It will help many people out there now and in the future. So fibro may have a new definition in the not too distant future.
