Hi Everyone, I am new to this board and am hoping for some feedback: I am 37 (38 in November), married, and went off depo provera just shy of 2 years ago. I have never been pregnant, and am a bit surprised that it hasn't happened yet. Our health insurance is lame with regard to diagnosis and treatment of infertility, so my doctor has agreed to just put me on clomid (50mg days 5-9), Estradoil (day 10-13 1.5 mg twice per day) and Prochieve ( begin day 17). We are having the semen analysis done this Monday, and I am to begin the Clomid on Tuesday. Insurance won't cover HSG, ultrasound, etc...so are we jumping the gun a bit going to the Clomid? My cycles are incredibly regular and I have signs that I do ovulate, I guess my ovaries just need some coaxing? Any danger in going with the clomid - aside from the mood swings I have heard about and am not looking forward to? I quit my job in February (was not comfortable working with chemicals while trying to conceive) and have since just been hanging around the house living stress-free and trying to get pregnant. Husband is 8 years younger and has proven himself to be fertile with a past girlfriend. This is starting to get tough and not sure I want to go through the treatment - Is it always a long road for girls like us, or do some end up pregnant right away using treatments? Wishing you all well in your own struggles - Sara

I am not a clomid expert but you may want to check out the "clomid vs. repronex" string. You might find some valuable information in those posts.

Sure, sometimes Clomid works right away, which is why doctors begin with it. I took it three times and never had any side effects, so everyone responds differently.
The HSG is an important test because if your tubes are blocked, there's no way Clomid is going to work. If your doctor is willing to proceed anyway though, it's probably worth a shot. Your body may just need some coaxing!
Also, you can buy an over-the-counter ovulation predictor kit if you ever have any doubt you're ovulating.
Good luck!

Hello! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
I took Clomid 50 and had no side effects, but I think with 100 dose you might experience all sorts... specially being moody, but you might not.
If you don't know if your tubes are blocked or not, I believe they a few rounds and if it doesn't work it's good to have it done. I can only get pg if I ovulate fro the left ovary as my right one id pernamently damaged...
Clomid might help you to achive have more eggs then 'just' one (it didn't work with me) so higher chance!
The best of luck to you! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/t_up.gif Sarka

Welcome to the board http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif
The girls are right, if you can get the HSG and SA, those are the two best places to start...my ins. only covered the diagnosis but not the treatment, and having an HSG is considered getting the diagnosis for fertility probs., I would push it w/ your ins. I did and they covered it, it was a total $500 w/ the hosp. and dr.'s bills combined! We were thinking of not having the HSG done and just trying clomid, and we were going to do it for 3 times and if no luck go from there, so if that is the road you choose to take it sounds good. I know they say if you do more than 3 cycles back to back on clomid you increase your risk of probs., but probably not from a few cycles...than again I am NOT a dr. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/nono.gif
The fertility "roller Coaster" is definitely a rough one w/ plenty of ups and downs, but w/ boards like this and women that are going through the same things, it helps tremendously!
Good luck in whatever you choose!

P.S. Those side effects you hear about are nooooooo joke, I am on 50 mg. and after that last pill, I was soooo sad I cried enough to fill an ocean, but the sadness and crankiness only lasted about 4 days. If you can try to remember that it is only a temporary drama, than it will be better

Hi Sarafina, welcome to the board. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Personally, I think that sarting any kind of drug without actually knowing what the problem is, is jumping the gun. Just because your sweetie has a child, doesn't mean that things can't change for him. Maybe you might want to wait until he gets his results first before starting. Who knows, maybe it doesn't have anything to do with you. If by some chance, your tubes are blocked or partially blocked, on Clomid, you are at a higher risk for an ectopic pregnancy as you normally release more eggs.
I wish you lots of luck ttc (trying to conceive)
